Report: Giants ‘love’ Dalvin Tomlinson and want to keep him

The New York Giants find themselves in a difficult spot with both Leonard Williams and Dalvin Tomlinson poised to become free agents at the start of the new league year.

The Giants have not been shy about their desire to re-sign Williams long-term, but less has been made about their view of Tomlinson. Williams, of course, is the more flashy all-around player, while Tomlinson gets lost in the wash of run-stuffing defensive tackles.

However, Tomlinson is widely considered one of the better defensive tackles in football and many view him as a potential prize in free agency.

The Giants know that and Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports that the team “loves” Tomlinson and like Williams, want him back in 2021 and beyond.

Unfortunately for the Giants, Leonard also notes that there’s a “good chance” Tomlinson never finds his way back to East Rutherford. At least not with Big Blue.

The Giants love DT Dalvin Tomlinson. They will keep him if they can. But there is a good chance Jerry Reese’s 2016 second-round pick gets paid elsewhere.

The Giants have an excellent track record when it comes to finding quality defensive tackles, but Tomlinson brings more to the table than just solid play. He’s a defensive captain, the team’s NFLPA representative and was nominated for the 2020 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.

That kind of impact is difficult to find and losing Tomlinson would be a huge blow for the Giants both on and off the field.
