Report: Eagles request permission to interview Cowboys’ Kellen Moore for HC opening
Well that’s a direction that Dallas Cowboys fans may not have seen coming. Fresh off the enthusiasm of being able to keep offensive coordinator Kellen Moore from taking the head coaching gig at Boise State, there’s a new threat to steal away Dak Prescott’s buddy. The Philadelphia Eagles fired head coach Doug Pederson earlier in the week after he and the front office’s tumultuous relationship finally ran it’s course.
The club has been interviewing candidates left and right and have landed on Moore as a potential interview candidate. According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, they’ve requested permission from the Cowboys to speak to the young up and comer.

Moore is signed through the 2023 season with Dallas, the same period of time as newly installed defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. NFL clubs cannot block assistants from moving on to head coach vacancies.
Moore has been the offensive coordinator for the Cowboys for the last two seasons after his first year as coach in 2018 as the quarterback coach. The former Boise State star who holds that university’s all-time passing records spent several years in the league as a backup, including his final three seasons with Dallas, the last two as a backup for Prescott.
The Eagles are focused on resuscitating the career of Prescott’s draft-classmate Carson Wentz, who was benched in favor of second-round pick Jalen Hurts this last season.
Many times, coaching interviews simultaneously give front offices new ideas from the candidates in how they would go about fixing issues with the club on the field. Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie could be interested in Moore’s ideas on what ails Wentz, and as Moore looks to eventually be a head coach, one could argue considering the opening is well in his best interest, as there are only 32 gigs available.
