Report: There ‘does not seem to be an extension coming’ for Boston Celtics forward Grant Williams

The Boston Celtics are unlikely to extend reserve forward Grant Williams before the Oct. 17 deadline to get the deal done by according to new reporting from Yahoo’s Jake Fischer. In a recent article by the Yahoo NBA insider, the Tennessee product’s prospects of landing a significant pay boost before the cutoff date ahead of the start of the 2022-23 NBA season appears to be at a standstill.

While the former Vol had an infamously poor start to his career with a historic case of the 3-point yips, he has since transformed himself into one of the better marksmen in the league as he has continually added to his game in other areas.

That growth has made Williams an important part of Boston’s rotation, but fans shouldn’t worry too much about the lack of extension as the Charlotte native will remain a restricted free agent regardless.

Additionally, the team may prefer to have flexibility with Williams’ salary should they want to include him in a deal for an as-of-yet-unknown star player becoming available for trade during this season.
