Report: Deontay Wilder near deal to face Robert Helenius on Oct. 15

Deontay Wilder could be back soon.

BoxingScene.com is reporting that the former heavyweight champ will probably face fellow contender Robert Helenius in a pay-per-view fight on Oct. 15 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The deal wasn’t completed as of Wednesday but the sides were closing in on an agreement, according to the outlet.

Wilder (42-2-1, 41 KOs) is coming off back-to-back knockout losses in his second and third fights against Tyson Fury, a seventh-round TKO in February 2020 and a 10th-round stoppage in October of last year.

The 36-year-old Alabaman went down a total of five times in those fights, although he also put Fury down twice in the entertaining final meeting.

The two fought to a disputed draw in December 2018.

Helenius (31-3, 20 KOs) stopped Adam Kownacki in his last two fights – in four and six rounds, respectively – to reenergize his career.

The latter fight took place on the Fury-Wilder III card, meaning both fighters will have been out of the ring for a year.
