Report: Brooklyn Nets among leading suitors for Portland’s Damian Lillard

The Brooklyn Nets have had a good offseason so far as they have made some interesting picks in the 2023 NBA Draft and they have made some solid moves in free-agency thus far. Unfortunately, it looks like Brooklyn may have had a chance to acquire a superstar before the reports quickly shut those hopes down.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard has requested a trade from the franchise that he has spent his entire 11-year career with. What makes this news relevant is that Charania pointed out in his tweet that the Nets are among “leading suitors” for the superstar lead guard.

However, in a quick turn of events, Charania said in another tweet that Portland was informed that Lillard wants to be traded specifically to the Miami Heat. Lillard, 32, recently narrowed his trade destinations to the Heat and the Nets, but most in the NBA space believed at the time that Brooklyn made more sense for Lillard because they have more to offer in the way of players and valuable draft picks.

This will be an interesting development to keep tabs on as free-agency continues.
