Regional Softball: Melbourne, Eau Gallie move on to regional finals

Region 3-6A

Melbourne 2, George Jenkins 0; Bartow 6, Viera 0

MELBOURNE — The Melbourne Bulldogs extended their undefeated season and claimed a spot in the regional final after defeating No. 3 George Jenkins 2-0.

After a scoreless four innings and a weather delay, Melbourne took a lead in the game when Hailey Cottrill got a hit to bring in a run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Ashley Berkemeier added to the Bulldogs' score after she hit a triple that allowed Cottrill to score Melbourne's second run of the game.

For the regional final, No. 2 Melbourne (29-0) will go on the road to play No. 1 Bartow (28-1) on Friday. Bartow defeated No. 4 Viera, 6-0, to earn a spot in the region final. Viera ends its season with a record of 19-9.

Region 2-4A

Eau Gallie 11, Lake Region 1 (six innings)

No. 3 Eau Gallie won its regional semifinals game over No. 2 Lake Region, 11-1. Gabriella Barrera had four RBIs, three hits, and scored one run in the game for Eau Gallie.

The Commodores will travel to Eustis to play the top seeded Panthers in the Region 2-4A final on May 17. Eau Gallie enters the game with a record of 17-6 and Eustis has a 23-2 record.

Region 4-5A

Archbishop McCarthy 11, Bayside 1 (five innings)

No. 5 Bayside fell to No. 1 Archbishop McCarthy 11-1 in the regional semifinals. The Bears finish their season as District 13-5A champions and with a record of 16-8.
