Reggie Bullock named finalist for social justice award

As former UNC wing Reggie Bullock gets set for the Western Conference Finals series between the Dallas Mavericks and Golden State Warriors, he’s been honored for his contributions off the court.

Bullock was named a finalist for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion Award this past week. Per the NBA’s website, the award recognizes a current NBA player for pursuing social justice and advancing Abdul-Jabbar’s life mission to engage, empower and drive equality for individuals and groups who have been historically marginalized or systemically disadvantaged.

Bullock was joined by Jrue Holiday (Milwaukee), Jaren Jackson Jr. (Memphis), Karl-Anthony Towns (Minnesota), and Fred VanVleet (Toronto) as the five finalists for this year’s award.

For Bullock, he’s been an advocate of LGBTQ equity for many years now and has participated in the NYC Pride March, the GLAAD Media Awards, and NBA events for LGBTQ youth. Bullock is also helping to create truly inclusive communities in neighborhoods. His national efforts haven’t gone unnoticed and he’s become a big voice for LGBTQ.

While a lot people will see his contributions on the court for Dallas in the NBA Playoffs, Bullock’s contributions off the court are just as great. And that’s why we are proud that he is a Tar Heel.
