Red Sox place LHP David Price on 10-day IL
Boston Red Sox starter David Price has been placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 3.
Price is dealing with left elbow tendinitis, the team said. Price, who is 1-2 with a 3.75 earned-run average in six starts, was scheduled to make his next start on Tuesday in Baltimore.
Price pitched six innings against the Chicago White Sox on Thursday, allowing three runs and seven hits while striking out five. The 33-year-old has dealt with elbow issues in the past, including missing the beginning of the 2017 season. It is not immediately clear how long Price will be sidelined.
Price is the second member of Boston’s rotation to hit the IL in recent weeks. Nathan Eovaldi was placed on the IL on April 20 and subsequently had surgery to remove loose bodies from his pitching elbow. The team said it expected Eovaldi to return within six weeks.
With Price on the IL, the Red Sox called up right-hander Ryan Weber from Triple-A Pawtucket to fill his spot on the active roster. Weber has a 5.01 ERA in 24 career MLB appearances, including eight starts, with three teams. This year in Pawtucket, Weber is 1-1 with a 5.04 ERA in five starts. Weber signed with Boston as a minor league free agent in December 2018.
The Red Sox, 17-18 on the year, have won seven of their last eight games entering Monday night’s game against the Orioles.
