Red Sox manager Alex Cora still isn't saying if he's going to the White House

By now you’re aware that visiting the White House, once an easy stop of the championship victory tour, has become a deeply divisive issue.

It’s been that way pretty much since LeBron James called President Donald Trump a “bum” amid the controversy surrounding whether the Golden State Warriors would visit Trump.

Now, each championship turns into who’s going and who’s not. This particular question has followed Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora for a while — since the night the Red Sox clinched their title last October. Now, with the Red Sox scheduled to visit the White House next week, the questions are coming up again.

Cora, a proud Puerto Rican, has been critical of Trump in the past, specifically for his comments about the death toll in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. In the past, Cora has been non-committal about the White House visit. He said after the World Series that he respects the president but was undecided. He said in December that he plans to use his platform the right way.

Now? Well, Cora still isn’t saying. Via Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com:

We already know Red Sox star and reigning AL MVP Mookie Betts isn’t going to the White House. Neither is Jackie Bradley Jr., who says he wouldn’t go no matter who was president. J.D. Martinez, however, is going.

The other looming question is what the Red Sox might get to eat next week. The Baylor women’s basketball team visited the White House on Monday and were treated to a meal of fast food from Wendy’s, McDonald’s and Chick-fil-A. That makes a third championship team that got a fast-food party from Trump.

This might just come down to how much Alex Cora likes fast-food burgers.
