Reactions to Elly De La Cruz's inside-the-park home run in Milwaukee-Cincinnati game
Cincinnati Reds phenom Elly De La Cruz hit an inside-the-park home run during the bottom of the 7th inning of Monday's series-opening win against the Milwaukee Brewers at Great American Ball Park, going from home to home in 14.96 seconds, according to the team.
It was the first inside-the-park home run of De La Cruz's big-league career, and the Reds' first inside-the-park homer since TJ Friedl hit one last September 23.
It was De La Cruz's second homer of the game, and second of the season. He hit one 450 feet off the batter's eye in the 5th inning.
De La Cruz is the first Red to homer from both sides of the plate in the same game since Javier Valentin on July 17, 2005.

The perfect blend of power and speed.
After crushing a 450-foot home run earlier in the game, Elly De La Cruz legs out an inside-the-park homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the @Reds an insurance run over the Brewers.#Reds pic.twitter.com/YTqt4Kc21L— Bally Sports Cincinnati (@BallySportsCIN) April 9, 2024
From spring training: During the offseason, the Reds worked on a specific plan to make Elly De La Cruz's routes around the bases more efficient. The goal was more inside-the-park homers. pic.twitter.com/LQqbb2Bh8H

Elly De La Cruz's night for the @Reds:
- HR from both sides of the plate
- over-the-fence HR & inside-the-park HR
- 4+ runs scored
- stolen base
He's the first player in MLB history to do all of that in the same game.— OptaSTATS (@OptaSTATS) April 9, 2024
