Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins tore his Achilles in win over Texans, will miss rest of season
Baltimore Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins will miss the rest of the season after he tore his Achilles in their season opening loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday, head coach John Harbaugh announced after the game.
Dobbins left early in the third quarter of the 25-9 win at M&T Bank Stadium with an apparent ankle injury, and was later ruled out for the rest of the game. Dobbins had rushed eight times for 22 yards and touchdown prior to the injury. He had to be helped off the field and the team initially deemed questionable to return.
"Just kind of crestfallen for him," Harbaugh said, via ESPN. "We will put our arms around him, and he'll get into rehab, and he will be back [next season]. But yeah, it's really hard for him."
This news is another devastating injury for the 24-year-old. He missed the entire 2021 season after he sustained a torn ACL during the preseason, and he missed eight games during the 2022 season as he continued to recover and then suffered a second knee injury. He had 520 rushing yards and two touchdowns in eight games last season.
The Ravens took Dobbins in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He missed time during training camp this year in search of a new contract. He is in the final year of his initial four-year, $5.7 million deal.
"That's very unfortunate," Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson said, via ESPN. "I feel like J.K. been busting his behind to get back on that field and just show ... what he's capable of and to help us out along the way. I spoke highly of him this offseason, just letting everybody know we really need him. For him to go down with a [season-ending] injury, that's just very unfortunate, not just him — for all of us."
Jackson went 17-of-22 for 169 yards with an interception in the win for Baltimore. He led the team on the ground with 38 rushing yards, too. Texans rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud went 28-of-44 for 242 yards on Sunday. Texans safety Jalen Pitre left the game in the second quarter, too, after Jackson kneed him in the chest. Pitre was hospitalized with a bruised lung, and may be kept overnight for observation.
The Ravens will take on the Cincinnati Bengals next week in Ohio.
