Ranking the Ravens defensive position groups ahead of season opener
Baltimore is just one week away from debuting a retooled defensive unit under assistant coach Mike Macdonald.
The Ravens added Jadeveon Clowney and Ronald Darby to a defense that returns Roquan Smith (LB), Patrick Queen (LB), Marlon Humphrey (CB), and Odafe Oweh (LB) among others.
Baltimore has two dynamic defensive tackles, and versatility at multiple positions along the front 7.
With preparation for the season opener vs. Houston set to begin, we’re ranking the Ravens’ defensive position groups after roster cuts.
MLB
Depth: Roquan Smith, Patrick Queen, Malik Harrison, Trenton Simpson, Del’Shawn Phillips
Position notes: Smith is an All-Pro, while Queen has star power at the position. Malik Harrison and Del’Shawn Phillips find the football, while Trenton Simpson is a rookie to watch out of Clemson.
Edge Rusher
Depth: Odafe Oweh, David Ojabo, Jadeveon Clowney, Tavius Robinson, Malik Hamm
Position notes: Oweh and Ojabo are ever improving, while the addition of Clowney could be a huge move that proves fruitful down the stretch.
D-Line
Depth: Michael Pierce, Justin Madubuike, Broderick Washington, Travis Jones
Position notes: This is a stout and underrated group with Travis Jones having true run-stuffing abilities.
Brent Urban’s return will also pay dividends.
CB
Marlon Humphrey, Rock Ya-Sin, Ronald Darby, Brandon Stephens, Jalyn Armour-Davis, Arthur Maulet, Damarion “Pepe” Williams (IR), Kevon Seymour
Humphrey will miss time, will Pepe Williams was placed on injured reserve, allowing Ronald Darby to return.

Depth: Marcus Williams, Kyle Hamilton, Geno Stone, Ar’Darius Washington
Position notes: Hamilton is a dynamic and versatile playmaker.
