Rangers' Adam Fox named 2022-23 Norris Trophy finalist
Adam Fox has been in the league for just four seasons and is already up for his second Norris Trophy.
Fox, the Rangers’ 25-year-old defenseman, was named a finalist for this year’s James Norris Memorial Trophy, an award given to the “defensive player who demonstrates through the season the greatest all-round ability in the position.”
The New York native finished eighth among defensemen with 12 goals, 60 assists and 72 points in 82 games to help the Rangers to 107 points this season.
He became the second Rangers blueliner to register consecutive 70-point seasons, following Brian Leetch (1995-96 and 1996-97), as well as the second-fastest defenseman in franchise history, behind Leetch (211 GP), to accumulate 200 career points (241 GP).
Fox also ranked among the team-lead amongst blueliners in takeaways (t-1st, 88), power-play assists (4th; 28), assists (t-4th; 60), game-winning goals (t-4th; 5), power-play points (7th; 29), total time on ice (7th; 1,998:58), plus/minus (t-11th; +28), average time on ice (13th; 24:23), shooting percentage (15th; 7.5 percentage) and goals (t-17th; 12).
In 2020-21, Fox became the second defenseman in NHL history to win the Norris Trophy within his first two seasons in the league. He’s also looking to become the second player to capture the award multiple times within his first four seasons.
The young defenseman joins Leetch, Brad Park and Bill Gadsby as the only Rangers to be a finalist at least twice for the award.
The other finalists for the Norris Trophy include Erik Karlsson of the San Jose Sharks and Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche.
