Rams-Giants advanced stats preview: LA has the edge in every area

While the New York Giants aren’t a team the Los Angeles Rams can look past, they’re also not one of the stronger opponents on the Rams’ schedule. At 5-10, they’ve already been eliminated from playoff contention but they’re starting veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor in hopes that he can lift the offense in a way that Tommy DeVito couldn’t.

Looking at the advanced stats from this season, including EPA per play, success rate and explosive plays, the Rams have a big edge in just about every category. They’re significantly better in EPA per play, ranking 10th in the NFL at 0.03 compared to the 31st-ranked Giants, who average -0.19 EPA per play. The Giants are also 31st in success rate (37.5%), 20 spots lower than the 11th-ranked Rams (44.2%).

The biggest advantage for the Rams lies in the running game. They’re seventh in EPA per rush (0.02), whereas the Giants defense is 27th in EPA per rush allowed (-0.04). In other words, Kyren Williams shouldn’t have much trouble moving the ball on the ground Sunday.

Here’s a complete look at the advanced stats where the Rams rank higher in all 11 categories.
