Quarterback Cordero Walker transfers to Germantown football after leading Haywood to TSSAA semifinals

Cordero Walker, a former standout quarterback at Haywood High School, has found a new home at Germantown. Walker, a senior, announced Friday on X, formerly known as Twitter, his transfer to the Red Devils, but has been at the school for a week.

"It was too much violence and nonsense going on," Walker said of why he wanted to leave Brownsville. "I was losing too many people and it was a toxic space for me."

He added there was a couple schools he considered, but he ultimately felt Germantown was the best fit for him. Along with Walker, three-star Mississippi State offensive tackle commit Kison Shepard transferred to the Red Devils after last season as well ahead of his senior year.

"The location with Germantown being in a nice part of the city and family members and people that I know that attend the school," Walker said of how Germantown became his destination.

Walker fills a position need for the Red Devils. Quarterback Isaiah Tate graduated last year, helping the Red Devils reach the Class 6A quarterfinals. At Haywood, Walker played in the 4A state semifinals.

During his junior year, he said he had more than 3,200 all-purpose yards and 45 total touchdowns, including 30 passing touchdowns and just two interceptions.

"I've got so many weapons," Walker said. "At Haywood, I felt like I had to do a whole lot. At Germantown, I feel like a lot will be (taken) off my shoulders. I have people that as long as I get them the ball, they'll make plays in space. The season should be very fun."
