Purdue basketball moves forward with European trip

WEST LAFAYETTE − Ethan Morton sat down along the wall at Cardinal Court following Wednesday's practice and delivered a brutally honest assessment.

"Obviously, for us last year, not a great end of the season," Morton said before evaluating his personal performance. "And for me personally, the last month of the season was just a load of crap."

You'd be hard pressed to argue the Purdue basketball senior's statement.

Now, though, it's time to move forward as the Boilermakers are set to embark on a European tour that will see them play four games and also offer the chance to unite despite the key ingredient to last year's Big Ten championship roster missing.

From Aug. 7-18, the Boilermakers will be in Europe, playing games in Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Italy.

"It'll be a ton of fun to be able to hang out with each other in new locations and have new experiences," junior Caleb Furst said.

There will be no Zach Edey, who is competing with Canada's national team in the FIBA World Cup through Sept. 11, which should allow more extended minutes for Furst and redshirt sophomore Trey Kaufman-Renn.

And from last year's team, no Brandon Newman or David Jenkins, but with the inclusion of Southern Illinois transfer Lance Jones and freshman Myles Colvin.

Purdue basketball will play Kickz Ibam at 7 p.m. EST on Wednesday in Munich, Germany. The following evening, BG Hessing Kangaroos in Stadtbergen, Germany.

On Aug. 11, the Boilermakers face SKN St. Polten in Austria and finish the European trip with BK Brno in Brno Kralovo-Pole, Czech Republic on Aug. 14. Games will be streamed, for a fee, at FloSports.com.

"We've been doing a lot more and we'll definitely be a little bit ahead of the curve, just from that perspective," Morton said.
