Pueblo's top games of the week to watch include soccer, tennis, football, and more

As the fall sports season progresses, each and every game begins to matter.

This week, Pueblo teams have lots of action on the tennis court, soccer pitch, volleyball court, softball field, and football field, including some major matchups between some top teams in the South-Central League.

Each week, the Chieftain selects the best home games to watch for the week. Here are our selections for the week:

Tennis

  • Pueblo East vs. Pueblo Central at Pueblo Central, 4 p.m. on Sept. 25

  • Vanguard vs. Pueblo South at Pueblo South High School, 4 p.m. on Sept. 25

  • Fountain Valley vs. Pueblo West at Pueblo West High School, 4 p.m. on Sept. 27

  • Pueblo East vs. Pueblo South at Pueblo South High School, 4 p.m. on Sept. 28

  • Pueblo West vs. Pueblo Centennial at City Park, 4 p.m. on Sept. 28

  • Pueblo Centennial vs. Pueblo South at Pueblo South High School, 9 a.m. on Sept. 30

This week's tennis action includes some matchups with top schools as East and Central kick the week off and South hosts Vanguard on Monday. Wednesday will see West hosting Fountain Valley. On Thursday, East and South battle it out, and West heads to Centennial. South will then host Centennial on Saturday

Soccer

  • Pueblo Central vs. Pueblo East at Dutch Clark Stadium, 5 p.m. on Sept. 26

  • Pueblo Centennial vs. Pueblo South at Dutch Clark Stadium, 7 p.m. on Sept. 26

  • Pueblo County vs. Pueblo West at Pueblo County High School, 7 p.m. on Sept. 26

  • Colorado Springs Christian vs. Dolores Huerta Prep at Dolores Huerta Prep, 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 26

  • Lamar vs. Dolores Huerta Prep at Dolores Huerta Prep, 11 a.m. on Sept. 29

There are a few matchups this week on the soccer pitch as Central and East battle on Tuesday followed by Centennial and South. County and West will also duke it out on Tuesday at Pueblo County High School. The final games of the week include two from Dolores Huerta as they have a game at 11 a.m. on Friday.

Unified Bowling

For the third straight year, Pueblo has been crowned unified bowling state champions with Pueblo Central winning it all this year. Steve Decker, Avery Taylor,
Theo Romero, Jordan Aguilar, Desire Lopez, Trinity Baker, Terra Salazar, Isaiah Bibby,
 Chidozie Onwuka, Jacob Ruybal, Xavier Salazar, made up the team for the Wildcats. Nov. 18, 2022.

  • Pueblo County vs. Pueblo Centennial at Big Daddy’s Bowl, 4 p.m. on Sept. 27

Another week of bowling commences in Pueblo, as the city is looking to make it four straight Unified Bowling champions as the sport continues to grow in popularity. This week's action includes South, East, West, County and Centennial all battling it out on Wednesday at Big Daddy's Bowl.

Volleyball

  • Fountain Valley vs. Dolores Huerta Prep at Dolores Huerta Prep, 5:20 p.m. on Sept. 27

  • Crowley County vs. Swallows Charter Academy at Swallows Charter Academy, 7 p.m. on Sept. 26

  • Pueblo Centennial vs. Pueblo South at Pueblo South High School, 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 26

  • Pueblo Central vs. Pueblo East at Pueblo East High School, 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 26

  • Pueblo County vs. Pueblo West at Pueblo West High School, 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 26

  • Pueblo County vs. Pueblo South at Pueblo South High School, 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 28

  • Pueblo Centennial vs. Pueblo Central at Pueblo Central High School, 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 28

  • Pueblo West vs. Pueblo East at Pueblo East High School, 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 28

There is some major action on the volleyball courts this week as we begin to get into the league play schedule in this sport. Pueblo West currently has the league lead with a 1-0 record, but right behind them is Pueblo County which also has a 1-0 record. Later in the week, County takes on South and West will visit East for another showdown of top-of-the-league standings action.

Football

  • Ellicott vs. Rye at Rye High School, 7 p.m. on Sept. 29

  • Monarch vs. Pueblo South at Dutch Clark Stadium, 7 p.m. on Sept. 29

  • Mesa Ridge vs. Pueblo West at CSUP Thunderbowl, 7 p.m. on Sept. 29

Rye's Dylan Hurne is on pace to rush for over 2,000 yards this season. He is currently (as of the time of writing this article) leading the state of Colorado in rushing with 971 yards. He will enter this week at least guaranteed a top-five spot on that list. The Thunderbolts will take on Ellicott on Friday. South will host Monarch after winning the cannon back this past week. Mesa Ridge will visit West at CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl on Friday night as well.

Softball

The is some good action on the softball diamond this week as top of the South-Central League Pueblo West will host County on Tuesday then later in the week West will host South. East and Central will battle it out on Tuesday as well, then East on County on Thursday night. Finally East and Central will play again on Saturday to end the week.
