Program history: East Nicolaus advances to first Northern California state Final 4

Nov. 10—East Nicolaus High girls volleyball won its 30th match of the season and moved further than any previous Spartan team in school history Thursday when it beat upper division foe Chico on the road in five sets (19-25, 25-19, 25-20, 21-15, 17-15).

With the win, sixth-seeded East Nicolaus (30-2) advances into the semifinals of the California Interscholastic Federation Northern California state Division IV playoff tournament, also known as the state D-IV Final Four, for the first time ever, according to Spartan head coach Donald Takeuchi.

East Nicolaus will play second-seeded Marin Academy (21-16) for the second time ever in the MaxPreps era Saturday night beginning at 6 p.m. in San Rafael. The winner moves into the NorCal D-IV regional final played at the highest seed available, Takeuchi said.
