Preston Scott resigns from Stratford football after one season

Preston Scott's one season as Stratford's football coach will be his lone one.

Scott has resigned as the school's coach, Metro Nashville Public Schools athletics director Mark North confirmed to The Tennessean. The coaching change will be the fourth among the city's schools since the end of the 2022 season.

Scott told The Tennessean he was resigning to spend more time with his family. He also had a son that is graduating from Stratford this month.

Stratford finished 2-9 in 2022, falling to Waverly in the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs. Scott replaced former coach Thomas Porter in late June after Porter left to be the defensive coordinator at Davidson Academy.

Scott came to Stratford after being an assistant at Stewarts Creek. He was the Hunters Lane coach in 2019-20, going 6-13, including 3-6 in a shortened COVID-19 season in 2020.

Scott led Hunters Lane to the Class 5A playoffs in his first season, marking the first time the program had reached the TSSAA postseason since 2009.

Former Brentwood Academy defensive coordinator Brian Lilly replaced Tom Moore at Hillwood, which will become James Lawson in the fall when the new school opens in Bellevue.

Pearl-Cohn assistant Damien Harris replaced Jamaal Stewart at East Nashville. Stewart left East Nashville after back-to-back Class 3A state runner-up finishes. He is now the Centennial coach.

Maplewood hired alum Chris Simpson, who was the defensive coordinator at East Nashville. Simpson replaces former Vanderbilt star Erik Davis, who resigned from Maplewood after two seasons.
