PREP TRACK: Nearly 40 area thinclads qualify for state meets from Class 4A and smaller

Nearly 40 athletes representing seven area high schools are scheduled to to be counted among the best of the best when next weekend’s Class A, 2A and 4A state meets get underway.

The local thinclads each earned their state berth by qualifying at this past weekend’s regionals.

The top three finishers per regional event, plus a handful of the other top performers from 4th-through-7th earned a state berth.

The area breakdown is: Dewey (4A), Caney Valley (2A), Pawhuska (2A), Oklahoma Union (2A), Nowata (2A), Wesleyan Christian (A) and Barnsdall (A).

Two of the area warrior brought home regional gold medals — Oklahoma Union’s Raven Estes (girls 300m hurdles) and Caney Valley’s Jayden Allen (boys shot put).

Oklahoma Union’s Lauryn Jackson qualified with regional silver medals in two individual events — the girls 1600m and 3200m runs.

Dewey’s Braden Garrison popped a career-best throw in the boys shot put (55-2.5) to finish second in the regional. He was one of only two boys in all the 4A state regionals to throw better than 55 feet. Garrison also qualified in the discus.
