Thursday’s results

SOFTBALL

CHATHAM GLENWOOD 4, SPRINGFIELD HIGH 0: At Chatham, Irie Lohrenz threw a complete-game shutout with 12 strikeouts in a Central State Eight Conference win.

The sophomore pitcher allowed just two hits and no walks. She improved to 3-0 and has a 0.67 ERA. She was selected to the Illinois Coaches Association’s Class 3A all-state first team last season.

Junior catcher Taryn Griffith ripped a two-run home run to center field in the first inning, and the Titans (5-0, 2-0 CS8) led 3-0 after the opening frame. Senior first baseman Cassie Feld furnished three hits, including a double and triple.

Springfield High junior ace Mia Volpert gave up nine hits, one walk and four runs (three earned) in the loss. She had eight strikeouts. The Senators fell to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the league.

ROCHESTER 12, NORMAL U-HIGH 8 (8 innings): At Normal, the Rockets plated four runs in the top of the eighth inning as Rochester split a home-and-home series with the Pioneers.

Bella Harness gave the Rockets (5-2 overall) an 11-8 lead with a three-run home run in the top of the eighth. Samantha Cory reached on a one-out single, and with two outs, Mylie Deatherage doubled to right field to put runners on second and third. That’s when Harness took a full-count pitch to center field.

The Rockets weren’t done yet. Peyton Purves singled and reached second on an error. Jaelyn Watts then followed that up with a fly ball to right that was also misplayed to allow Purves to score.

Harness was 3-for-5 with five RBIs and a double. Purves was 3-for-5 with a home run and a double with two RBIs. Rochester’s Brooklyn Thompson was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Eleanor Schudel drove in two runs and doubled for the Rockets.

Watts (3-1) struck out 11 over eight innings pitched to get the win.

Molly Jones led U-High with a home run and four RBIs. Ryan Coombs was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs for the Pioneers (5-2). U-High claimed the Central State Eight Conference win on Wednesday 7-2. Thursday’s game was a nonconference meeting.

SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 5, NORTH MAC 3 (8 innings): At Virden, Kenzie Wieland dialed up 14 strikeouts in a complete game to help the Cyclones win in extras. She gave up six hits, one walk and three runs (one earned).

Matilda Ratcliffe was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the go-ahead run in the eighth. Libby Kulek had two hits, an RBI and two runs. Wieland rapped out a double.

Taylor Keirs took the loss in eight innings. She ceded five hits and five runs but two earned. She had four strikeouts and three walks. Abby Hendricks supplied two hits.

LINCOLN 19, SOUTHEAST 0 (4 innings): Kelsey Marten had a hit and three RBIs while Grey Gilbert had a hit, two RBIs and three runs en route to a Central State Eight Conference win.

Regan Kutz, Madisen Wurth and Norah Blockcombined for 10 strikeouts for the Railsplitters.

DECATUR MACARTHUR 19, LANPHIER 8 (5 innings): At Decatur, Tamaih Jefferson was 2-for-3 with three runs scored in the Lions’ loss to MacArthur.

Catcher Maya Bennett was 1-for-1 with two walks, an RBI and two runs scored while pitcher Maylee Payne drove in one and scored twice for the Lions (1-3).

PLEASANT PLAINS 13, BEARDSTOWN 0 (5 innings): At Beardstown, pitcher Kayden Skinner produced four hits and tossed a two-hit shutout in the Cardinals’ win.

Skinner had an RBI double at the plate, and she struck out eight and walked one in the circle. Plains completed the shutout with seven runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Aspen Kitowski finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, and Faith Nestler drove in two runs with a single for Plains, which ended with 11 total hits.

BUFFALO TRI-CITY 16, ARTHUR CHRISTIAN 1 (4 innings): At Buffalo, Lily Woodworth struck out eight in three innings pitched and went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the Tornadoes’ nonconference win.

Woodworth (2-1) allowed one walk, one hit and one unearned run.

Lexie Patton was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, Scout Tschantz homered and Tiffany Farley was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs as Tri-City improved to 5-1.

STAUNTON 7, TROY TRIAD 6: At Troy, Korryn Keehner lifted a fly ball to left field, and an error scored two runs as Staunton rallied with three runs in the top of the seventh inning for a nonconference win.

Relief pitcher Ele Feldmann didn’t allow a run in three innings of work to earn the win. Feldmann struck out two, walked one and gave up two hits. Feldmann finished 3-for-4 with an RBI single, and Keehner had a two-run single and two hits.

Lilly Bandy was 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Staunton, which led 4-3 after three innings before Triad took a 6-4 lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth.

CARLINVILLE 5, JERSEYVILLE 4: At Jerseyville, Olivia Kunz (3-for-4) plated two runs with a single in the top of the seventh inning, and Carlinville came back for a nonconference win.

Hallie Gibson (2-for-3, two runs) and Kendal Maddox, who both singled to start the seventh, scored on Kunz’s hit to give Carlinville the lead. Gibson then retired the side in the bottom-half to end the complete-game victory. She struck out eight and walked zero on four hits while allowing no earned runs.

Carlinville fell behind 3-0 when Jerseyville’s Anna Kribs hit a three-run home run in the first inning. Addison Ruyle then hit a two-run homer in the second to get the Cavaliers within 3-2 before Jerseyville scored a run in the bottom half for a two-run lead. Maddox (2-for-3) had an RBI single for Carlinville in the fifth to make it 4-3.

GILLESPIE 8, HIGHLAND 4: At Highland, pitcher Emma Gipson launched two home runs and threw a complete game to lead the Miners.

Gipson had a three-run homer in the first inning and a solo shot in the third to give Gillespie a 4-0 lead. Paxton Reid made it back-to-back home runs with a blast to center field for a five-run advantage.

The Miners plated a run in the fourth on an RBI single by Lauren Bertagnolli for a 6-0 lead until Jerseyville scored four in the bottom-half highlighted on a two-run double by Bailey Mettler.

Macie Wright had an RBI double in the fifth, and Sadie Sholtis homered in the seventh to add a pair of insurance runs for Gillespie.

PANA 11, HILLSBORO 1: At Hillsboro, Pana manufactured 18 hits, and 11 went for extra bases in a nonconference win.

Shelby Ashcraft homered, drove in three runs and scored three times. Brianna Mathis was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a double, and five other Pana hitters collected two hits apiece.

Pitcher Anahi Cooper went the distance for Pana, giving up six hits and one earned with four strikeouts and three walks.

TAYLORVILLE 12, SULLIVAN 9: At Taylorville, the Tornadoes scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull away for a win.

Reece Brockelsby and Peyton DeMichael finished with four hits apiece for Taylorville. The two combined for five runs scored and each drove in a run. Jessi Wright and McKynlee Siempelkamp both had two hits and three RBIs apiece.

Taylorville compiled 16 hits, and the two teams combined for 16 errors.    

MOUNT ZION 6, WILLIAMSVILLE 3: At Williamsville, Nicole Sinks homered and finished with two hits in the nonconference loss for the Bullets. Izzy Nowack had two hits.

Ella Fink struck out 11 in a complete-game win for Mount Zion. She yielded nine hits, three runs and no walks.

DECATUR EISENHOWER 15, RIVERTON 3 (5 innings): At Riverton, Raelyn Moore and Kristen Painter each had two hits for the Hawks in the nonconference loss.

Painter was 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and a run scored while Moore was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

GIRLS SOCCER

CARLINVILLE 9, EAST ALTON-WOOD RIVER 0: At East Alton, Jordyn Loveless and Ruthie Reels each posted a hat trick in a nonconference win. Alexsis Kalaher tallied three assists, and Carlinville improved to 3-2-1 overall.

Wednesday’s results

SOFTBALL

SPRINGFIELD HIGH 18, LANPHIER 1 (4 innings): At the UIS Softball Complex, Megan Bullock struck out eight in three innings and allowed one hit, one walk and one run in three innings in a Central State Eight Conference win.

Bullock also tripled with two RBIs and three runs. Kendall Knauer had three hits and three runs. Mia Volpert supplied two hits, two RBIs and three runs. SHS (5-0, 2-0 CS8) scored 15 runs in the first inning.

NORMAL UNIVERSITY 7, ROCHESTER 2: At Rochester, the Pioneers pulled ahead with seven runs through the first three innings for a Central State Eight Conference win.

Maggie Stadler struck out 11 in a complete game. She gave up six hits and two unearned runs with three walks. Meera Sundaram provided three hits and two runs for the Pioneers (5-1, 1-1 CS8).

Raegan Rezba supplied two hits and a run for Rochester (4-1, 1-1 CS8). Eleanor Schudel had a hit and RBI.

LINCOLN 12, JACKSONVILLE 7: At Jacksonville, Taryn Stoltzenburg unloaded four hits and two runs while Grey Gilbert had three hits, two RBIs and two runs in the Central State Eight Conference win.

Faith Eckhardt mustered two hits and four RBIs. Regan Kutz had two hits, two RBIs and three runs.

Addie Blimling and MacKenzie Gerard each had three hits for the Crimsons.

PAWNEE 6, ATHENS 5 (8 innings): At Pawnee, Ava Rodriguez cranked out the walk-off RBI hit with two outs in extras for the nonconference win.

Miranda Corrie totaled three hits and an RBI while Mae McTaggart and Elissa Day each had two hits. Haley Maretti picked up the win in 5 1/3 innings with five strikeouts. She gave up four hits, five walks and two runs.

Carly Szoke had two hits and three RBIs for Athens.

PETERSBURG PORTA 4, TAYLORVILLE 2: At Taylorville, Gabbie Branson struck out 11 and allowed eight hits, two walks and two runs in the nonconference win.

Branson also delivered two doubles and two runs. Greta Butler had two hits and three RBIs. Kylie Teimeyer and Marissa Jiannoni each had two hits.

GILLESPIE 11, TROY TRIAD 0 (5 innings): Emma Gipson struck out 12 in five innings and allowed just three hits and two walks in the nonconference win.

Gipson also homered and finished with three hits, three RBIs and a run. Ava Parish homered as well and produced three hits, three runs and two RBIs. Sadie Sholtis had a hit and three RBIs. Macie Wright had two doubles.

SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 19, DECATUR MACARTHUR 0 (4 innings): At SHG, Kenzie Wieland hit a grand slam and finished with two hits and five RBIs.

Ella Selinger went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs.

BEARDSTOWN 4, WINCHESTER WEST CENTRAL 3: At Beardstown, Shelby Goodrich tossed a complete game and struck out seven in the win.

She gave up five hits, no walks and three runs (one earned). Kylynn Maltby had a double and two RBIs.

CARLINVILLE 22, GLEN CARBON FATHER MCGIVNEY 5 (4 innings): Addison Ruyle rapped out three home runs and totaled seven RBIs in the nonconference win.

She homered in the first, second and third innings. Braley Wiser generated four hits and three RBIs while Kendal Maddox had three hits and four RBIs.

Ruyle and Chloe Pope scored four runs.

BUFFALO TRI-CITY 17, CERRO GORDO 0 (4 innings): Kamryn Sturdy homered and pitched a shutout inning as the Tornadoes dominated Cerro Gordo in nonconference action.

Lexie Patton was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Mackenzie Chandler was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored and Lily Woodworth went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs.

AUBURN 5, PANA 3: At Pana, Mailee Schoen homered and drove in three runs to help the Trojans to a nonconference win.

Addison Jones had two RBIs for Auburn on a sacrifice fly while Piper Taylor and Addison Wheatley each had two hits. Sydney Rabideau allowed three runs on seven hits to get the win.

Allie Sarver led Pana with a pair of singles.

NORTH MAC 12, GREENFIELD-NORTHWESTERN 2 (5 innings): At Greenfield, Abby Hendricks homered, and Reese Perrine drove in three runs to lead the Panthers to a comfortable nonconference win.

Perrine was 2-for-2 with a double. Ines Ortigosa scored three times for North Mac.

Taylor Keirs and Hendricks each struck out two batters apiece and gave up a combined three hits for the Panthers.

GIRLS SOCCER

ROCHESTER 7, LINCOLN 0: At Rochester, Drea Smith and Charlotte Beatty each had two goals as Rochester blanked Lincoln in a Central State Eight Conference match.

Smith put Rochester on top 1-0 by putting away a pass from Taylor Offer. Offer assisted on the next goal as Beatty gave the Rockets (4-3 overall, 3-1 CS8) a 2-0 lead.

Offer then had a goal of her own on a Smith assist. Rochester headed into halftime with a 5-0 lead after Jayda Sperry and Beatty each had unassisted goals.

Smith and Brooklynn Lowder had goals in the second half for the final score. Alyse Day made one save for the shutout victory in net.

Lincoln fell to 6-3 (1-2).

STANFORD OLYMPIA 2, RIVERTON 0: At Stanford, the Spartans got a pair of second-half shots in net to beat Riverton in a Sangamo Conference match.

Raquel Birky and Kensie Kleinschmidt each recorded a goal after both teams played a scoreless first half.

Riverton goalkeeper Briannah Walker stopped four shots on goal.
