Prep Spotlight: Glenwood's Lehnen sets records at CS8 meet plus more results for May 1-2

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

Lehnen, Glenwood soar at CS8 meet

Katelyn Lehnen set new benchmarks in the 100- and 200-meter dash and Chatham Glenwood captured the Central State Eight Conference girls track and field meet title at Memorial Stadium.

Lehnen dominated the 200-meter dash with a personal-best 24.04 seconds after surging to first place in the 100 in 11.77, both new CS8 records. She also anchored the winning 4x400 relay with teammates Lydia Gurnsey, Ali Londrigan and Natalie Alexander in 4:00.69.

Lehnen won the 3A state title in the 200 as a freshman.

Glenwood teammate Reese Wolfe additionally ascended to 13 feet in the pole vault to set another CS8 record.

Lincoln’s Becca Heitzig also toppled a CS8 record in the 800 at 2:09.70. She is a two-time 2A state champion in the event.

Glenwood ended with 175 points, landing ahead Normal University (136) and Sacred Heart-Griffin (90).

Alexander additionally claimed the 300 hurdles in 45.41 ahead of Heitzig’s 46.36 while Breashira Hemingway won the long jump in 16-8 ¼ for the Titans.

Sacred Heart-Griffin's Maggie Fleischli took the 400 in 1:00.50. Rochester’s Natalie Nichols, Jillian Conlon, Ashley Zeibert and Brooke Zeibert won the 4x800 relay in 9:43.50.

Southeast’s Stacey Efe-Nogo claimed the shot put with a mark of 34-4 while Alannah Lowery won the triple jump (35-0 ½). Springfield High’s Shelva Sewavi won the discus (97-3).

SOFTBALL

PLEASANT PLAINS 3, BUFFALO TRI-CITY 1: At Buffalo, Pleasant Plains plated three runs in the top of the sixth inning and pitcher Faith Nestler hurled a three-hitter for a nonconference victory.

Addy Davis gave Plains a 1-0 lead when she drove in a run with a bunt. Kayden Skinner then belted a two-run home run, and the Cardinals went ahead 3-0.

Tri-City scored its only run in the bottom of the sixth, getting an RBI single from Kamryn Sturdy.

Nestler was dominant in the circle, striking out eight without allowing a walk.  

SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 24, DECATUR EISENHOWER 0 (4 innings): At Decatur, Kenzie Wieland and Libby Kulek each drove in four runs, and both delivered in the circle as SHG rolled in a Central State Eight Conference game.

Wieland and Kulek finished with two hits apiece. Kulek’s four RBIs came in SHG’s 12-run first inning. She had an RBI single and a three-run triple.  Wieland had a three-run double in the second and a run-scoring single in the third.

Kendall Stotlar drove in three runs with a double as SHG scored seven in the second. Wieland and Kulek combined for six strikeouts in the win.

CARLINVILLE 4, CARROLLTON 2: At Carlinville, Hallie Gibson threw a complete game and Addison Ruyle drove in two runs for the Cavaliers.

Gibson allowed five hits and two earned runs with five strikeouts and two walks. Carlinville scored twice in the first inning on an RBI double by Isabella Tiburzi and got another run on a Carrollton error.

Ruyle’s two-run double in the fifth gave the Cavaliers a 4-0 lead.

TAYLORVILLE 8, ATHENS 5: At Taylorville, the Tornadoes erased a two-run deficit with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a nonconference win.

Kyleigh Heimsness’ RBI single got Taylorville within a run and Livia Havera broke a 5-5 tie with a two-run triple in the sixth.

Havera finished 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs, and Heimsness went 3-for-4 and scored twice. Peyton DeMichael tossed a complete game for the win.

Preslie Buckmaster ended 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for Athens.

PAWNEE 6, AUBURN 5: At Pawnee, Ava Rodriguez singled to start the bottom of the seventh and came around to score three batters later to provide the winning run in Pawnee’s nonconference win.

With the game tied 5-5, Rodriguez led off the frame with a single to center field. Two batters later, Adalyn Boblitt hit a one-out single to right field to move Rodriguez to second.

Makenna Corrie then drove a liner to center, and Rodriguez scored from second for the walk-off win.

Rodriguez finished 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and three runs scored. Boblitt and Corrie also had a pair of hits. Amber Bradbury also doubled for Pawnee.

Addison Wheatley doubled for Auburn while Addison Jones went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored. Skylar Meats went 2-for-2 for the 19-4-1 Trojans.

Pawnee improved to 9-5.

LITCHFIELD 18, VANDALIA 2 (4 innings): At Litchfield, three Purple Panthers each had three RBIs in a South Central Conference win.

Lili Anne Readenour, Laynie Wyatt and Madi Rimar all finished the game with three runs batted in. Wyatt, who also pitched the Purple Panthers to a win, went 4-for-4 and scored four times. Readenour tripled while Rimar and Charlie Bono each doubled.

Wyatt struck out four in four innings. She allowed two runs on five hits and one walk.

Bono and Alyssa Aubuschon both had a pair of hits.

PANA 12, HILLSBORO 2 (6 innings): At Pana, the Panthers collected 16 hits and posted a South Central Conference victory.

Joey Laker and Kennedy Bowker finished with three hits apiece for Pana. Laker had three RBIs and Bowker scored three runs. Izzy Reed, Shelby Ashcraft and Brianna Mathis registered two hits apiece and combined to score five runs with five RBIs.

Ashcraft was the starting pitcher, and she threw a complete game, striking out seven and walking one.

STAUNTON 5, BETHALTO CIVIC MEMORIAL 0: At Staunton, Gianna Bianco threw a complete game two-hitter, and the Bulldogs posted a nonconference shutout.

Korryn Keehner gave Staunton a 2-0 lead in the first inning when she drove in two runs with a single. Lilly Troeckler (2-for-2) added a solo home run in the second and it was more than enough for Bianco, who struck out one and walked none.

Lilly Bandy went 3-for-3 with an RBI single and Ele Feldmann had a hit and an RBI for Staunton.

PEORIA HIGH 9, LANPHIER 5: At Peoria, Lanphier’s Maya Bennett drove in three runs on two hits — including a home run — in the Lions’ nonconference loss.

Tamiah Jefferson went 2-for-3 with a triple and scored three runs for the Lions.

RAYMOND LINCOLNWOOD 10, NOKOMIS 0 (6 innings): At Raymond, Jenna Matli drove in three runs to help the Lancers to an MSM Conference win.

Taryn Clarke and Taryn Millburg each had two hits.

Tori Elvidge struck out 11 in a complete-game shutout. She allowed four hits and four walks.

NORTH MAC 21, RIVERTON 1 (4 innings): At Riverton, a 15-run first inning for North Mac led to a nonconference rout.

North Mac took advantage of 16 walks. Abby Hendricks (2-for-2, four runs), Alexis Bowman, Ines Ortigosa and Addison Cole drove in two runs apiece for the Panthers.

Taylor Keirs had a hit, scored three runs and finished with three RBIs. Hendricks was the winning pitcher, striking out nine and walking two.

NORMAL U-HIGH 17, JACKSONVILLE 2 (4 innings): At Normal, Addy Blimling and Maggie Gerard had the Crimsons’ only hits in a Central State Eight Conference loss.

GLASFORD ILLINI BLUFFS 14, HAVANA 2 (6 innings): At Glasford, Sara Finn went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and five RBIs in the leadoff spot as the Tigers rolled.

Finn’s three-run home run in the sixth ended the game. Annabelle Fortin was 4-for-4, scored twice and drove in a run for Illini Bluffs.

Hannah Hodgson went 1-for-3 and had two RBIs for Havana.

Wednesday’s results

SOFTBALL

SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 4, CARLINVILLE 3: At SHG, McKenna Norris hit the go-ahead two-run home run to right field in the bottom of the fifth inning to lift the Cyclones to a nonconference win.

Norris also doubled and finished 3-for-3 at the plate. Kenzie Wieland had a hit with an RBI and run while earning the win in the circle. She struck out 10 and gave up three unearned runs on four hits and three walks.

Isabella Tiburzi and Karly Tipps each had a hit and RBI for the Cavaliers. Hallie Gibson took the loss with nine strikeouts in six innings.

ROCHESTER 6, PEORIA NOTRE DAME 2: At Rochester, Jaelyn Watts homered and threw a complete game in a nonconference win.

Watts helped her own cause with two hits offensively. She gave up two runs on four hits and five walks with nine strikeouts.

Brooklyn Thompson offered two hits and two runs while Mylie Deatherage had a double with two RBIs.

CHATHAM GLENWOOD 10, NORMAL COMMUNITY 0: At Normal, Cassie Feld totaled eight strikeouts and gave up just five hits and one walk in the shutout victory.

Taryn Griffith went 4-for-4 with three RBIs while Ryliegh Kiel produced three hits and three runs in the leadoff spot. Ava Bobb and Jenna Hazard each had two hits while Molli Cascio had a double with two RBIs.

GILLESPIE 10, NORTH MAC 0 (6 innings): At Gillespie, Emma Gipson gave up just two hits and struck out seven and the Miners remain unbeaten at 7-0 in South Central Conference play.

Gipson delivered two hits with an RBI while Delaney Taylor had two hits with three RBIs. Sadi Sholts homered and finished with two RBIs and two runs.

LANPHIER 18, SOUTHEAST 0 (3 innings): At Southeast, Maylee Payne provided two hits with three RBIs and two runs while picking up the win in the circle.

She gave up just one walk with five strikeouts in a no-hitter. Payne and Tamaih Jefferson each had a double for the Lions, who scored 10 runs in the opening frame.

LINCOLN 2, NORMAL WEST 1: At Normal West, Grey Gilbert mustered the go-ahead RBI double in the seventh inning to pick up a nonconference win.

Madisen Wurth surrendered just one run on two hits and a walk with eight strikeouts.

STAUNTON 11, LITCHFIELD 1 (6 innings): At Staunton, leadoff hitter Lilly Bandy went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run to help the Bulldogs beat the Purple Panthers in a South Central Conference game.

Bandy hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to put Staunton on top 9-2. Teammate Kylie Lucykow finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and Ele Feldmann was also 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Gianna Bianco struck out two in her complete-game win. She allowed one run on five hits and one walk.

Litchfield freshman Alexis Mielke went 2-for-3. The Purple Panthers fell to 6-12 overall and 0-6 in the SCC.

Staunton improved to 14-4 (7-1 SCC).

WILLIAMSVILLE 11, PETERSBURG PORTA 4: At Petersburg, Reese Larson and Naomi Roberts each homered and doled out four hits in a Sangamo Conference win.

Larson finished 4-for-4 with two RBIs and four runs. Roberts scored twice. Izzy Nowack also homered for the Bullets.

Norah Dodsworth totaled three hits with an RBI and two runs. Elle Smithers picked up the win in a complete game. She gave up four unearned runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

NEW BERLIN 6, BEARDSTOWN 5: At New Berlin, Skylar Green hit the walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to register a nonconference win. Halle Bandy finished 3-for-4.

MACON MERIDIAN 10, AUBURN 0 (5 innings): At Auburn, Ashley Schelling struck out nine and gave up just one hit and five walks without any runs in a nonconference win.

Addison Jones had the only hit for the Trojans and walked twice.

GREENVILLE 6, LITCHFIELD 3: At Greenville, Charlie Bono and Laynie Wyatt each collected two hits in the South Central Conference loss.

GLEN CARBON FATHER MCGIVNEY 12, HILLSBORO 5: At Glen Carbon, Ella Greenwood went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the Hiltoppers’ nonconference win.

GIRLS SOCCER

ATHENS 4, AUBURN 1: At Auburn, the Warriors rallied with four unanswered goals, including three in the second half, to net a Sangamo Conference win.

Auburn opened with a 1-0 lead on Lauren Spellbrink’s assist to Katie Pace before Athens’ Marianna Martinez tied the match with nine minutes left in the first half.

Karsyn Jacoby scored the go-ahead goal early in the second half. Emersen Lane and Ellie Shiffer supplied insurance goals.

SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 2, WILLIAMSVILLE 0: At Ken Leonard Field, Isabella Perryman ended the scoreless tie with 23 minutes left in the second half and Lily White added an insurance goal for a nonconference win.
