Prep roundup: Warner boys punch ticket to state

Mar. 2—Basketball

AREA

CLASS 2A AREA IV BOYS CONSOLATION AT ROLAND — Warner used the fourth period to pull away and earn a hard fought 38-26 win over Howe. The win sends the No. 13 Eagles (17-11) to State and Jace Jackson had a huge part in that with 24 points and finishing 8-for-8 at the line.

Warner led 12-11 at the break and 21-18 at the end of the third period. Head coach Anthony Porter had a hard time trying to find the words to go with the moment.

"I don't know what to say, I'm speechless," he said. "One thing I can say is the kids worked hard all season long for this. They didn't get down or panic when we were down by one. We know we can score no matter who has the ball."

When asked about what it means to go to State, he said, "it's amazing we've been knocking for a long time and now we finally have gotten in."

Baseball

MUSKOGEE THREE-WAY — Muskogee split its opening day games as

the Roughers defeated Tulsa NOAH, 7-4. Bradan Carter went 2-for-2 with an RBI and Rock Gilliam added two RBIs. Jace Paul earned the win.

Muskogee (1-1) had a 3-2 lead but Pryor scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to win the nightcap, 6-3. Aiden Barnoski and Chris Daniels accounted for the Roughers' two hits and Doc Estes took the loss.

OKTAHA 18, SPIRO 1 (5 IN.) — Dylan Walden starred for Oktaha as he went 3-for-5 at the plate and was just a single short of hitting for the cycle. As a team the Tigers (1-0) belted five home runs on the day. Kip Christian earned the win for Oktaha.

PORTER THREE-WAY — Carson Bindrum led Porter to a 9-5 win over Copan as he finished 3-for-3 with a double and two singles.

In an 8-1 loss to Porum, the Pirates (7-2) were hitless as their only run came via a walk as Tyler Durrett crossed the plate. Gage Scarberry and Caden Robinson teamed up for the no-hitter for the Panthers. Cooper Franklin, Isaiah Sallee, Rylind Tillery and Robinson all collected two hits for Porum.

Sallee, with 10 strikeouts, pitched a perfect game for the Panthers (5-0) as they beat Copan 10-0. Robinson topped all batters going 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs.

CLAREMORE 13, WAGONER 5 — Wagoner was down 13-0 before scoring all of its runs in the bottom of the fifth.

The Bulldogs (1-1), who were held to just three hits, were led by Keyton Cole and Jake Pusatere both with two RBIs. Cole took the loss on the mound.

COWETA 17, FORT GIBSON 1 — Opening day did not go as planned for Fort Gibson. The host Tigers (0-1) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Ashton Abshire brought in Wyatt Peirce to score.

That lead was short lived as Coweta went up 3-1 in the top of the fourth and finished out the day with a nine-run sixth inning.

Ethan Reese and Eli Hazen led Fort Gibson at the plate with two hits apiece. Abshire took the defeat as he lasted just 1 2/3 innings and scattered five hits and gave up eight runs.
