Prep Roundup: Vollmer scores 18 for Charlevoix in 69-55 win over St. Francis; Mancelona overcomes 21-point deficit to beat Onaway, 68-66

Jan. 10—TRAVERSE CITY — The vibes this season are high for the Charlevoix boys varsity basketball team.

The Rayders (9-1, 3-1 Lake Michigan) extended their winning streak to four games after a 69-55 road win against Traverse City St. Francis on Wednesday. It's also the first time in two years that the Rayders defeated the Gladiators.

"The mindset has been we play with a chip on our shoulder, knowing St. Francis has a great program. They're coached well, and it's always a tough place to play in," Charlevoix head coach Anthony Troshak said.

Troshak noted that St. Francis' Max Ogden played great and made things challenging. Odgen racked up 26 points and collected three boards.

Other notable contributors for St. Francis were Isaiah Millward (six points, five rebounds), Isaac Kerr (six points, four rebounds), and Michael Bohrer (five points).

Charlevoix had several players who contributed to the win, starting with Hudson Vollmer (20 points, four assists), Joe Gaffney (17 points, four steals), and Troy Nickel (14 points).

The Rayders haven't started the season 9-1 since the 2020-21 campaign, which is also the last time they claimed the Lake Michigan Conference.

The Rayders look to extend their winning streak at home against Kalkaska on Friday. St. Francis (4-4, 3-1 Lake Michigan) looks to get back on track at home against Boyne City on Friday.
