PREP ROUNDUP: Viking girls get WIC road victory

Jan. 10—West Vigo survived a fourth-quarter rally by host Cloverdale on Tuesday night and defeated the Clovers 42-38 in Western Indiana Conference girls high school basketball.

The Vikings, who picked up their first conference win of the season, led all the way but were outscored 17-8 in the fourth period.

Hannah Stepp led West Vigo with 16 points while Delaney Marrs had 12. The Vikings, 3-15 and 1-7, host Sullivan on Friday.

Cloverdale, 2-16 and 0-8, was led by Amalia Haga with 16 and Emily Mann had 12. The Clovers host Cascade on Friday.

In other girls high school basketball Tuesday:

—Sullivan 48, North Central 46 — At Sullivan, a big third quarter gave the host Golden Arrows a 10-point lead, but the Thunderbirds fought back in the always emotional battle between the two county rivals.

Jacie Wilson had 15 points and Katherine Sarver and Lexis Drake had 12 each for Sullivan, now 16-4. The Arrows are at West Vigo on Friday.

Shelby Seay led all scorers with 20 points while Jalyn Davidson added 14 and Samantha Secrest 12 for North Central, now 11-9. The Thunderbirds host North Knox on Monday.

—Northview 50, Cascade 47 — At Clayton, the Knights rallied from an eight-point deficit to post a nonconference win.

Brynlee Clark had 23 points and Reagin White 10 for Northview, now 16-3. The Knights host South Putnam on Friday.

Cascade is 7-10 and plays Friday at Cloverdale.

—Parke Heritage 68, South Vermillion 11 — At Clinton, the visiting Wolves remained unbeaten in Wabash River Conference play.

Emma Simpson and Mia Myers had 13 points each for the winners, 16-3 and 4-0, while Andi Perkins and Addilee Jenkins had 12 and nine points respectively. Simpson also had 11 rebounds, six steals and six assists. Parke Heritage hosts Covington on Thursday.

Chloe Richardson had eight points for the Wildcats, 0-18 and 0-4. South Vermillion hosts Clay City on Saturday.

—North Vermillion 33, Attica 21 — At Cayuga, Lauren Ellis had 12 points and Kera Dunham 10 as the host Falcons won a WRC game.

Now 8-9 overall and 2-3 in conference play, the Falcons are at Shakamak on Thursday.

Aleah Cruz had 10 points for Attica, 6-11 and 1-3, which hosts Riverton Parke on Friday.

Boys basketball

—Shelbyville (Ill.) 63, Marshall 48 — At Marshall, Ill., the host Lions dropped a nonconference home game Tuesday.

Payton McGuire had 19 points, R.J. Mattas 11 and Bentley Delp 10 for Marshall, now 8-10. The Lions play at Casey on Friday.

—Clay City 62, Dugger Union 32 — At Clay City, Class A's fifth-ranked Eels posted a big nonconference win against a potential sectional opponent on Tuesday.

Now 9-3, Clay City is at Eastern Greene on Friday. Dugger Union, 4-10, is idle until a Jan. 20 home game against South Putnam.

—St. Joseph-Ogden 42, South Vermillion 35 — At St. Joseph, Ill., South Vermillion's Zack Hess improved to 22-1 for the season with a 23-second pin, but it wasn't enough for the visiting Wildcats.
