PREP ROUNDUP: Keller finishes third for St. Anthony girls cross-country at national event; St. Anthony girls tennis finishes strong at Bloomington Purple/Gold Invitational

Oct. 5—TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — St. Anthony freshman sensation Isabella Keller had yet another strong showing on Saturday at the Nike Cross Country Town Twilight in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Keller finished third in the Women's 5,000-Meters U.S.A. Race of Champions. The race featured 397 runners.

Keller finished in 17:06.6. Nicki Southerland (Delta High in Muncie, Ind.) and Zariel Macchia (William Floyd High in Mastic Beach, N.Y.) were the only two to finish higher. Southerland finished second at 17:06.3 and Macchia won at 17:01.

As a team, St. Anthony finished 16th in the Women's 5,000-Meters U.S.A. Open with 357 points.

Aubrey Denning finished fourth at 20:18.7. Stacie Vonderheide was 10th at 20:48.9. Emma Helmink was 49th at 22:08.2. Grace Niebrugge was 189th at 25:38.2 and Ava Faber was 199th at 26:07.6.

As for the boys, they finished 41st with 1,228 points.

Aidan Braunecker finished 279th at 18:54.7. Oliver Kreke was 349th at 19:34.8. Noah Flaig was 362nd at 19:43.5. Elliot Frisbee was 400th at 20:18.8. James Emmerich was 418th at 20:41.3 and Calvin Sudkamp was 450th at 21:17.3.

North Clay also competed in the event.

On the girls side, Brooke Koelm finished 180th at 23:56.7 and Maddie Ayers was 340th at 30:51.8.

On the boys side, Zane Groves finished 158th at 18:41.8. Cooper Givens was 383rd at 22:11.2. Hunter Webb-Ord was 385th at 22:11.3. Wyatt Pritchard was 386th at 22:11.7 and Ethan Gibbons was 410th at 23:41.5.

Lincoln Prairie Conference Meet

Cumberland County finished third in girls events and boys events at the Lincoln Prairie Conference Meet on Saturday.

The boys finished with 53 points. Cerro-Gordo/Bement won with 44. Broadlands (Heritage) was second with 51. Villa Grove was fourth with 103 and Sullivan was fifth with 110.

The girls finished with 64 points. Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond was first with 48 points. Argenta-Oreana was second with 57. Sullivan was fourth with 67 and Cerro-Gordo/Bement was fifth with 91.

For the boys, Cameron Roedl finished fifth at 16:59.48. Riley Morgan was seventh at 17:37.48. Kaleb Bierman was ninth at 18:11.12. Zack Buescher was 16th at 19:01.91. Kade Bradley was 18th at 19:34.57. Cole Margenthaler was 23rd at 20:11.69. Sawer Wellbaum was 25th at 20:23.12. Maximus Strader was 26th at 20:29.73. Damon Ryan was 34th at 21:17.08. Ian Caudill was 35th at 21:28.54. Jonathan Flier was 39th at 22:23.54. Nathan Kuhns was 42nd at 22:56.15. Tate Christner was 44th at 23:38.83 and Jason Shellenbarger was 51st at 29:00.03.

On the girls side, Lexie Fletcher was eighth at 23:20.07. Libby McGinnis was 12th at 24:59.16. Addison Mast was 13th at 25:04.50. Annie Clark was 16th at 25:15.46. Atalie Osborn was 24th at 26:48.78 and Megan Baker was 26th at 29:33.97.

BASEBALL Centralia (Christ Our Rock Lutheran) 6, Teutopolis 5

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes fell to Centralia (Christ Our Rock Lutheran) in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday, 6-5.

Dawson Hoene went 1-for-3 with one run and one walk. Jason Kreke went 1-for-4 with one RBI. Carter Hoene went 1-for-3 with one double and one walk. Jake Bushur went 2-for-4 with two runs. Kremer went 1-for-3 with one walk. Dylan Hartman went 2-for-4 with one double, one run and two RBIs. Gavin Addis went 1-for-1 with one double, one run, one RBI and three walks and Bryce Niebrugge went 1-for-4.

Hoene pitched for Teutopolis (19-5). He allowed eight hits, six runs (four earned) and two walks to three strikeouts in six innings.

Teutopolis 2, Centralia (Christ Our Rock Lutheran) 1

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes defeated Centralia (Christ Our Rock Lutheran) in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday, 2-1.

Garrett Gaddis went 1-for-5 with two runs. Davin Worman went 1-for-4 with one RBI. Mick Niebrugge went 1-for-4 with one walk and Devin Kreke went 1-for-3.

Gaddis and Alex Kremer pitched for Teutopolis (19-4). Gaddis allowed two hits, one run and two walks to 13 strikeouts in seven innings; Kremer allowed one hit and two strikeouts in three innings.

Altamont 17, Woodlawn 2

The Altamont Indians defeated Woodlawn on Saturday, 17-2.

Kaden Davis went 2-for-4 with one triple, two runs and one RBI. Nathan Stuemke went 1-for-3 with four runs and one RBI. Kaidyn Miller went 2-for-3 with one home run, one run, two RBIs and one walk. Dillan Elam went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBIs and one walk. Ethan Robbins went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, one RBI and one walk. Riley Berg went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Keegan Schultz went 1-for-3 with two runs.

Stuemke, Kade Milleville and Eli Miller pitched for Altamont (15-6). Stuemke allowed two hits, two runs and three walks to two strikeouts in 2/3 of an inning; Milleville had two strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings and Eli Miller allowed one hit and four strikeouts in two innings.

SOCCER Teutopolis 1, Breese (Mater Dei) 0

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes defeated Breese (Mater Dei) on Saturday, 1-0.

Cooper Tegeler scored off an assist from Ethan Thoele, while Noah Thompson had seven saves.

Newton at Mattoon Tournament

Newton finished 2-0-1 at the Mattoon Tournament on Saturday.

The Eagles (11-5-1) tied with Lincoln, 2-2, defeated Olney (Richland County), 4-1, and defeated Mt. Carmel, 1-0.

Against Lincoln, Luke Weber scored two goals and Lance Volk had two assists.

Against Richland County, Weber had two goals and Brock Anderson and Henry Will each had one and Weber added one assist.

Against Mt. Carmel, Weber had one goal and Nicholas Brody had one assist.

GIRLS TENNIS Bloomington Purple/Gold Invitational

St. Anthony finished fifth at the Bloomington Purple/Gold Invitational on Saturday with 37 points.

St. Anthony finished with three points in the first doubles bracket, four points in the second and three in the third and finished with three points in the first singles bracket, five in the second, six in the third, seven in the fourth, two in the fifth and four in the sixth.
