PREP ROUNDUP: Hartselle girls, boys win county championship

Feb. 24—The Hartselle soccer team won both the boys and girls championships Saturday in the Morgan County tournament at Jack Allen Soccer Complex in Decatur.

Hartselle's girls edged Priceville 5-4.

The game was tied 1-1 after regulation and went to penalty kicks which saw the Tigers outscore Priceville 4-3 to outlast the Bulldogs for a 5-4 win.

Katelyn Dolbeer scored Hartselle's lone goal in regulation, while Cara Beth Nelson, Maddy Henry, Camille Speering and Lanie Shaw scored the penalty goals.

Kenzie Bowling scored Priceville's goal with an assist AK Hopkins. Priceville goalkeeper Tori Staats had 26 saves.

The boys defeated Austin 5-2.

Luke Vinson, Hunter Lawrence, Alex Hartfield, Gavin Erb and Owen Bennich all scored goals with Bennich being named the tournament's MVP.

Baseball

Austin 3, Hazel Green 1: Austin scored two runs in the first inning to help earn its first win of the season on Saturday. Ethan Wynn led the team with a hit and an RBI. Levi Morgan picked up the win on the mound, allowing four hits and a run in four and a half innings.

Decatur Heritage 9, Winston County 1: Bryant Sparkman had two hits, including a homerun., and an RB, while also pitching three hitless and scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. Dylan Germany added a hit and three RBIs and Paxton Tarver got the win allowing no hits and no runs with seven strikeouts in two and a half innings.

Hartselle 11, Robertsdale 4: Cade Miles had two hits and two RBIs and Peyton Steele added two hits as the Tigers rolled to a win on Saturday.

Priceville 4, Arab 3: Priceville rallied with two runs in the last inning to pick up a win over Arab on Friday. Tyde Borden brought in the game tying run on a double and then Thomas Ferguson scored the game winning run on a steal of home.

Borden had two hits and an RBI and got the win in relief with four strikeouts and just one hit in an inning and a half. Kane Dunn had a hit and two RBIs.

Softball

Danville 8, Fort Payne 7: Danville scored four runs in the final inning to snatch a win from Fort Payne on Saturday.

Aubrey Reed had a solo homerun and also scored three runs. Adily Alberti had a hit and four RBIs.

Austin 3, Scottsboro 2: Lyndi Perkins had two hits to lead the Black Bears in a win over Scottsboro. Grace Lamb got the win in the circle, allowing a hit and two runs in three innings

Hatton 5, Northridge 3: M Brewer had two hits and scored two runs as Hatton picked up its first win of the season. Mallory Lane added a hit and two RBIs.

Priceville 12, Falkville 0: Katee King had a hit and two RBIs for the Bulldogs on Saturday. Kelsey Green got the win in the circle, allowing a hit and no runs with six strikeouts.

Lawrence County 12, Calera 9: McKenzie Hyche had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Red Devils over Calera. LA Norwood added two hits and an RBI, while AB McKay and Addison Plaxco each had a hit and two RBIs.

Clements 7, Elkmont 4: Sarah Jo Moss hit two homeruns and had four RBIs as Clements picked up a win on Saturday. Carly Nave and Bella Mann each had two hits.
