Prep roundup: Elks boys take over 1st in LMC; Harbor Springs girls win to force tie atop LMC
Jan. 30—ELK RAPIDS — Elk Rapids took over first place in the Lake Michigan Conference with a 61-49 victory over Harbor Springs.
The win, combined with a Traverse City St. Francis setback against Charlevoix, puts the Elks a game up in the LMC with four conference games remaining.
Keagen Cotterman led Elk Rapids (9-7, 8-2 LMC) with 16 points and four rebounds. Owen Spencer chipped in 10 points and six boards, and Jayden Hresko contributed eight points and three rebounds.
"We played well against a solid Harbor Springs team," Elk Rapids head coach Kevin Ball said. "Collectively, we were able to keep their top two guards in check for most of the night. Our guys played well offensively, knocking down some key shots throughout the night. Keagen Cotterman really stepped up for us tonight."
Rider Bartel scored 14 points to lead Harbor Springs (9-6, 6-3 LMC), and Braeden Flynn added 12.
"It's nice sitting in first place, but we also understand that the LMC is a battleground," Ball said. "We seem to be hitting our stride at just the right time, and we will focus on just taking it one game at a time."
The Elks host East Jordan on Thursday, while the Rams travel Thursday to Grayling.
