Prep roundup: Elk Rapids beats Kingsley in league champs battle; Hall scores 36 as Kalkaska posts 1st win of season in OT
Feb. 27—KINGSLEY — Elk Rapids emerged victorious in a late-season matchup of two league champions.
The Elks won 41-32 over Kingsley in Tuesday's nonconference girls basketball game at Kingsley.
"Great game, hard-fought game," Kingsley head coach Matt Schelich said. "We just came up a little short."
Kendall Standfest led the Lake Michigan Conference champ Elks with 16 points, 11 rebounds and four assists, while Morgan Bergquist added 13 points and six rebounds. Ally Plum grabbed 11 rebounds for Elk Rapids, and Brooke Fluty had five points and three steals.
Annie Strang paced the Northwest Conference champion Stags with nine points, Grace Lewis pitched in eight, and Chrissy Whims seven.
The Stags (16-6, 12-2 Northwest) open districts March 6, facing the winner of Kalkaska and Cheboygan. The Elks (20-2, 13-1 Lake Michigan) play the same night, drawing the winner of Traverse City St. Francis and East Jordan at Johannesburg-Lewiston.
