Prep roundup: Brighton hockey's Cam Duffany victimizes Livonia Stevenson again
Brighton forward Cam Duffany continued to victimize Livonia Stevenson’s hockey team.
Duffany scored two third-period goals to give the second-ranked Bulldogs a 4-2 victory over the sixth-ranked Spartans Friday night at Eddie Edgar Ice Arena.
Lane Petit scored for Brighton late in the second period to tie the game, 2-2. Duffany scored shorthanded and into an empty net in the third.
Duffany scored all three Brighton goals against Stevenson in the state Division 1 quarterfinals last season, including the winner in double overtime.
Zack Helminen scored Brighton’s other goal.
Brighton will turn around and play at 1 p.m. Saturday against archrival Hartland at Hartland Sports Center.
Orchard Lake St. Mary’s 4, Hartland 1
Jake Pietila’s goal got Hartland within 2-1 before the end of the second period, but St. Mary’s scored with 5:53 and 4:27 remaining to put the game away.
Howell 7, Grand Haven 2
Grand Haven cut a 4-0 deficit to 4-2 with 5:29 left in the game before Howell responded with three goals in a 1:10 span to secure the victory.
Ben Huotari had two goals and two assists for the Highlanders (7-1-1), who are ranked fifth in Division 1.
Evan Judd, Tanner Sauve, Rory Sturos, Marco Wolf and Cade Katlin scored Howell’s other goals.
Boys basketball
Pinckney 64, Midland 48
Sophomore Jace Carlson tied a Pinckney record with seven 3-pointers en route to a game-high 25 points.
Senior Caden Carlson had 14 points and nine rebounds for the Pirates.
Howell 77, Troy Athens 35
Howell’s Curtis Dell scored 20 points, shooting 6-for-7 from the field and 3-for-3 from 3-point range.
Andrew Weber had 17 points, Daniel Hampton had 10 points and nine rebounds and Jaylen Hicks had six assists for the Highlanders.
Howell shot 27-for-44 from the floor and 8-for-14 from 3-point range.
Brighton 70, Detroit Denby 31
Cole Rooney scored 15 points, Vince Salmon had 10 points and nine rebounds, Ben Kocab had 11 points, and Trevor Viau had nine points for Brighton.
Mason 66, Fowlerville 19
Wyatt Soli scored 10 points for Fowlerville (1-4), which will visit Charyl Stockwell Tuesday.
Girls basketball
Hartland 58, Farmington 4
Aubree Meyer scored 14 points, while Kennedy Tucker and Izzy DePestel each had 12 for the Eagles (3-0), who became the third team in four games to hold Farmington to single digits.
Rochester Hills Stoney Creek 45, Brighton 35
Noelle Ebel had 12 points, Sophia Moir had nine points and seven rebounds, and Genna Cox had seven points for Brighton.
Clarkston 51, Howell 48
Alison Farr scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds, while Lexi Le had 11 points and five rebounds for Howell.
Midland 60, Pinckney 48
Brielle Reason scored 18 points and Audrey Wardlow 16 for Pinckney (1-3).
Mason 47, Fowlerville 29
Tommi Kleinschmidt had 10 points, while Angelle Haan had 10 rebounds in her final high school game. Haan, who will play college softball, is set to have shoulder surgery Dec. 21.
Swimming and diving
Brighton 95, Plymouth 88
Brighton’s Noah Shand won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:50.97, the 100 freestyle in 50.20 seconds and was on two winning relays.
Luke Newcomb won the 200 individual medley in 1:59.94 and the 100 breaststroke in 57.41, and Mason Staszel won the 50 freestyle in 23.31 and the 500 freestyle in 5:10.33. Both were on a winning relay.
Huron Valley 87, Pinckney 81
Pinckney senior Dylan Ray won the 100 freestyle in 1:51.91, earning a Division 3 state cut, and the 100 backstroke in 57.42.
Gymnastics
Howell’s Maria Petru won three of four events and was first all around with a score of 36.75 during a 138.075 to 137.175 victory over Salem. Brighton scored 136.2 points to lose to Salem.
Petru had an all-around score of 36.75 points. She was first on bars (9.675), floor exercise (9.65) and vault (8.80). Brighton’s Anna Browne won beam with a score of 9.15.
Boys bowling
Plymouth 18, Brighton 12
Johnny Saunders rolled a 224 game and a 426 series for Brighton.
