Prep roundup: Brighton hands No. 2 Northville first soccer loss

BRIGHTON — Brighton’s soccer team snapped a two-game losing streak in a big way, beating Northville 2-1 to hand the second-ranked Mustangs their first loss of the season.

Northville came into the game with a 5-0-1 record, allowing only two goals.

Brighton had two goals by halftime. Owen Buckley scored off an assist from Ethan Cassar to open the scoring and set up a goal from Devlin McGinnis to make it 2-0. Northville cut the deficit to 2-1 before halftime.

Charlie Burchfield stopped all seven shots he faced in the second half to preserve the victory. Reece Meyer made five saves in the first half for the Bulldogs (4-3).

Fowlerville 2, Eaton Rapids 1

Brandon Hunt and Tanner Camps scored for Fowlerville (4-2).

Salem 4, Howell 1

Alex Romo scored for Howell.

Tecumseh 5, Pinckney 0

Pinckney (1-6) was shut out for the sixth straight time after a season-opening victory over Charyl Stockwell.

Volleyball

Howell 3, Canton 0

Howell won three 25-15 sets to beat Canton.

Payshince McDaniel had 12 kills, Emerson Baum 17 digs, Mackenzie McCormick 14 digs and Keira Manning 14 assists for Howell.

Mason 3, Fowlerville 0

Mason won 25-23, 25-16, 25-21.

Morgan Thomas had 19 assists and 16 digs for Fowlerville, while Payton McConnaughey had 20 digs and Kaitlyn Seiter had 14 digs.

Cross country

OCS Small School Invite

Charyl Stockwell senior Anthony Urbaniak placed third with a time of 17:59.1.

Swimming and diving

Brighton 102, Plymouth 82

Ola Bodyl won the 200-yard individual medley, the breaststroke and was on two winning relay teams for Brighton.

Grace Gray won the 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly and a relay. Sage Bissett won the 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke and a relay.

Novi 130, Howell 56

Annabelle Respondek won 50 freestyle in 26.29 seconds and Olivia Glenfield won butterfly in 1:07.42 for Howell’s two first-place finishes.
