Prep Report: River Queens take fourth at Lady Lancer Relays
Mar. 29—DAVENPORT — The Clinton River Queens opened their outdoor track and field season on Thursday evening against some tough competition at the Lady Lancer Relays.
The River Queens tied for fourth place with Dubuque Hempstead in a field of 12 teams. North Scott, Iowa City and Bettendorf were ahead of them.
Headlining the day for Clinton was senior standout Camryn Sattler who dominated the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:30.77, 28 seconds in front of the second place finisher. Later in the night she also took care of business in the 1500 meter run, finishing with a sub five minute time of 4:55.33. This time 15 seconds in front of the second place finisher.
Out in the field, sophomore Elle Lonergan cleared 4'10" to take third place for Clinton while senior Kendie Huizenga took fifth in the shot put.
Aumree Russell, Hannah Malli, Quinn Nielsen and Carryn Sattler combined for a time of 1:57.60 which was good enough for second place in the 800 meter sprint medley.
Nielsen, along with Malli, Claire Unke and Julia Suessmith were able to bring home another second place finish, this time in the 4x200 with a time of 1:52.81.
Nielsen then turned around to place third in both the 100 and 200 meter dash with times of 13.48 and 27.46 seconds respectively.
Sescie Haan ran a 1:11.04 for a fourth place finish in the 400 meter hurdles. Carryn Sattler finished sixth in the 400 meter dash in a tight field, running a 1:03.95.
Finally, Carryn Sattler, Haan, Unke and Suessmith combined for a third place finish in the 4x400 with a time of 4:22.92.
The Queens will be at Dubuque Senior on Tuesday evening.
River Kings compete at Pleasant Valley Track and Field Invitational
BETTENDORF — The River Kings were also in action on Thursday, competing at the Pleasant Valley Track and Field Invitational.
Clinton finished in eighth out of eight teams with 30.50 points.
Tytus Wright started things off with a 24.04 in the 200 meter dash for a sixth place finish. Bryant Lee then ran well in the 400 meter dash for Clinton, placing fifth in a tight race with a time of 53.97.
Out in the field, Jay Dodd was able to jump 18-07 for a fifth place finish in the long jump. Senior Marcus Steen earned himself a sixth place finish in the discus throw with a distance of 131-02.
Rounding out the day, the Kings best relay was Cohen Thorpe, Konnor Schroeder, Kaleb Soppe and Ed Weiner in the distance medley. They finished in 3:57.30 for a fifth place finish.
The Kings will continue to get experience next week when they are at Bettendorf on Tuesday afternoon.
