Prep highlights: Pinckney's Jonny Hoffmann continues strong start on mound

Junior Jonny Hoffmann continued to be Pinckney’s most reliable pitcher, throwing 3 ⅓ shutout innings Thursday in a 17-1 victory over Ypsilanti.

Hoffman allowed four hits, struck out five and didn’t walk a batter.

He lowered his earned run average of 1.54 in six starts. He has struck out 27 batters and walked only three in 27⅓ innings.

Pinckney led 10-1 before tacking on seven runs in the top of the seventh inning, completing a three-game sweep in two days over Ypsilanti by a combined score of 47-1.

Talon Koppmann was 2-for-5 with three RBIs for the Pirates (8-9), who stole 12 bases.

St. Johns 6, Fowlerville 1

Hunter Mathes held St. Johns scoreless for four innings until the Redwings scored three runs in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead.

Softball

Angelle Haan had two doubles, a triple and drove in four runs in the second game for Fowlerville (8-7).

Tori Briggs homered in the second game, drove in five runs in the doubleheader and struck out eight batters in six innings in the opener. Ella Olrich and Tommi Kleinschmidt each went 3-for-4 in the first game for the Gladiators.

Track and field

MIAC jamboree

Charyl Stockwell’s boys and girls finished fourth out of eight teams.

Mitchell Vaske won the 300-meter hurdles in 43.37 seconds and Nathan Vaske won pole vault by clearing 11 feet for the Sentinels’ boys. Merrick Abner was second in discus.

Stockwell’s girls won the 400 relay in 56.64 with the team of Elizabeth St. Martin, Lauren Hammond, Becka Lethorn and Jordan Knight.

Ella Heffner was second in the 800 (2:55.52) and Lethorn was second in pole vault (7 feet).

Golf

Maurice Auto Repair

Howell finished fourth out of 14 teams with a 331 at Lakes of Taylor Golf Club. Alex Pietila and Jacob Dault tied for eighth place with 80s for the Highlanders.

Tecumseh 161, Monroe 167, Pinckney 194

Luke Jenkins tied for seventh with a 43 to lead Pinckney.

CAAC Red jamboree

Fowlerville was fifth out of five teams with a 198 at Meridian Sun Golf Club. Williamston won with a 166.

Alex Mack and Cole Sova shot 45s for the Gladiators.

Boys lacrosse

Howell 11, Novi 3

Ryan Tedesco had three goals and one assist, Marshall Chambers set up five goals, and Dane Chambers and Ethan Loebig each had two goals. Nolan Hudnut made 10 saves for Howell.
