Prep Boys Basketball: CIF-SS playoff schedules, local players to watch

The CIF-Southern Section playoff pairings for boys basketball were released Sunday morning and 12 area teams will have a shot at capturing a title.

Seven of those teams drew home games to start the playoffs, including Hesperia.

Fresh off of capturing the Mojave River League title, the Scorpions begin the Division 3AA playoffs with a home game against Wilson at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Both teams own victories over Firebaugh this season — Wilson beat Firebaugh 72-49 on Jan. 4 while the Scorpions faced Firebaugh 11 days later, and won 56-28 on Jan. 15.

Hesperia is coming off a thrilling 64-60 victory over Oak Hills for the MRL title, and has won four in a row.

Meanwhile, Oak Hills will begin the Division 2A playoffs on the road, against Knight, which has won seven games in a row. According to MaxPreps.com rankings, this figures to be a close one. Knight is ranked 234th in the state, while Oak Hills is right behind at 237th.

From the Desert Sky League, three teams received playoff berths, with Victor Valley as an at-large bid in Division 4AA. The Jackrabbits will be home Tuesday night in a wildcard game against Littlerock.

Adelanto, the DSL champion, is home for the first round of the Division 2A playoffs against Lakewood, which is on a two-game losing streak after a stretch of 10 victories in a row.
