Poudre cross country runner Leah McDonald voted Blue Federal Credit Union's Athlete of the Week
This week's Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week is now a winner twice over!
Poudre High School cross country runner Leah McDonald took home top honors in the Fort Collins area after an outstanding race last weekend.
The Impalas junior won the girls event at the Andy Meyers Invitational in Greeley last Saturday with a time of 18 minutes and 1.60 seconds to set a new career and course best.
It was also McDonald's first varsity race victory and her third top-10 finish this season in a breakout campaign.
McDonald ultimately won the fan poll after being in pole position the whole way, earning 57% of the 18,290 votes cast.
That beat out other fantastic performances from her fellow nominees:
Tanner Gray, Wellington football (runner-up at 34.7%)
Colton Pawlak, Fossil Ridge football
Molli Magaña, Windsor softball
Luke Balic-Wilson, Heritage Christian boys soccer
The Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week series features five nominees every Monday, with voting at Coloradoan.com until 11 p.m. Wednesday and the winner named on Thursday.
Fans can nominate their favorite athletes (deadline: 11:59 p.m. every Saturday) and the Coloradoan Sports staff will ultimately select the five nominees each week.
