Post 17 improves to 17-16 on the season with 7-6 and 10-8 wins over Pierre

PIERRE — Watertown Post 17 held off a late rally in the first game and put together one of its own to complete a doubleheader sweep over Pierre in American Legion Baseball on Tuesday.

Post 17, now 17-16 overall, notched 7-6 and 10-8 wins.

In the opener, Watertown led 7-0 after 4 1/2 innings before Pierre scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth and another one in the sixth. Jack Heesch pitched the final inning to notch the save in relief of Jackson Maag, who allowed only one earned run in six innings.

In the second game, Pierre led 4-0 early before Watertown tied the game in the top of the fifth. Pierre regained an 8-4 lead with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Post 17 answered with a six-run sixth and held on.

Ryan Roby, Drew Denzer and Dylon Rawdon each had run-scoring hits to spark Watertown's five-run second inning in the opener. Roby joined Carson Mutschler with two hits. Denzer hit a triple and Mutschler a double.

Spencer Easland tripled and Matthew Coverdale and Carter Sanderson each doubled for Pierre.

Carter Beynon's two-run single started Post 17's winning really in the sixth inning of the nightcap. Denzer followed a bases-clearing double to complete the comeback.

Mutschler produced three hits and Spencer Wientjes two for Watertown. Beynon drove in three runs and Treyton Himmerich two.

Will Engstrom went five innings for the win and Heesch pitched two scoreless innings for the save.

Sanderson had three hits and Matthew Hanson two for Pierre. Jonathan Lyons homered and drove in three runs.

Big Stone City 10, Milbank 7

MILBANK — Big Stone City (1-2) snapped a 3-3 tie with six-run sixth inning on the way to the victory on Tuesday.

Carter Brown and Dru Boots each had three hits and Carter Lee two for the Badgers. Boots tripled and drove in two runs. Lee had a double.

Dillen Scheeley drove in three runs with two hits for Milbank (3-4), which also got doubles from Owen Tesch and Merik Junker.

Big Stone plays in the Ashley Charron Wood Bat Tourney that opens Friday in Webster.

Groton 22, Claremont 5

CLAREMONT — Two 10-run innings powered Groton to victory in the five-inning game on Tuesday.

Claremont led 3-0 after two innings. Groton plated 10 runs in the top of the third and 10 more in the top of the fifth.

Bradin Althoff went 5-for-5 with a double and a triple and five runs batted in to spearhead the 18-hit attack for Groton (7-5). Cole Simon and Brevin Fliehs each contributed three hits and Colby Dunker and Cade Larson two each.

Simon drove in four runs, Larson three and Dunker two. Simon also earned the win on the mound.

Will Cutler went 3-for-4 with a home and four runs batted in for Claremont.
