Porter Moser: 'Zero truth' to rumors about Oklahoma basketball coach leaving for DePaul

Porter Moser is seemingly staying at OU.

Moser affirmed his commitment to OU Monday evening after he had been mentioned as a potential target for DePaul’s coaching vacancy after Tony Stubblefield’s firing.

A GIF of an OU flag posted to Moser’s X account Monday contained the caption: “Heard all the rumors this afternoon and want to say emphatically there is zero truth! I love Oklahoma and Sooner Nation. These accounts make stuff up and there is no validity to any of these ‘sources’ because I have spoken to no one about any job!”

Moser, a Naperville, Illinois, native who served as head coach of Loyola Chicago from 2011-21, is one win away from locking in the Sooners’ NCAA Tournament chances. The 55-year-old has been persistent about his interest in remaining at OU.

Moser’s contract runs through the 2028 season. His buyout is reportedly around $6.5 million.

Moser was asked as recently as Feb. 12 about whether the DePaul rumors had any merit.

“I haven't talked to anybody," Moser said 28 days ago. "I'm not even thinking about anything. I'm just absolutely not even engaging in anything like that, 100 percent. ... All rumor mill fodder. Nothing, nothing true."

In his first two seasons at OU, Moser has failed to make the tournament but is on the cusp as his team was a No. 9 seed in ESPN insider Joe Lunardi’s latest bracketology update. OU is set to join the SEC this summer.
