Portage County high school scores | Aug. 22: Ravenna girls tennis edges Berea-Midpark

Metro Athletic Conference tennis championship tournament hosted by Ravenna high school on Thursday, September 29. Jameson Jordan, Ravenna.

Ravenna swept the three singles matches to pick up a 3-2 victory over Berea-Midpark in girls tennis Tuesday.

That included Jameson Jordan (first singles) and Whitney Holmes (second singles) winning their matches in straight sets, and Mallory Sterba (third singles) prevailing in a third-set tiebreaker.

Boys Soccer

Rootstown 9, Rittman 0

Zach Pastor notched a hat trick and added two assists, while fellow freshmen Caleb Fillmore and Isaac Simkanin scored their first career goals for the Rovers.

Brady Fillmore tacked on two goals and an assist for Rootstown (1-1-0), which also got a five-save shutout from Trent Gauer.

Aurora 5, Chagrin Falls 0

The Greenmen exploded for four goals in the first half en route to their second victory of the season.

Kalvin Fehler led Aurora (2-1-0) with a hat trick, while Nate Just and Hunter Kanouff added goals and Jackson Gilmore, Jonah Shanholtzer and Jordan West had an assist apiece.

Streetsboro 2, Norton 2

Payton Krzeminski scored both goals for the Rockets in an impressive draw with the three-time defending Metro Athletic Conference champion Panthers.

Eli Christine and Tristan Sadowski had an assist apiece for Streetsboro.

Cloverleaf 3, Ravenna 1

The Ravens played the Colts close, as the MAC rivals were tied 1-1 at the end of the first half.

Julian Rios had Ravenna's lone goal, assisted by Terrill Strickland, while Lincoln Hedge made 11 saves in net.

Springfield 3, Field 2

The Spartans scored the game-winner with eight seconds remaining. Lane Chapman had two goals for Springfield, with the other coming from Tucker Chapman.

Logan Lonzrick and Liam Waffen scored a goal apiece for Field (2-1-0, 1-1-0 MAC), which led 10-5 in shots on goal and 3-0 in corner kicks.

Crestwood 9, Brooklyn 0

Elijah Jurisch put forth a dominant effort with five goals in a Red Devils win over the Hurricanes.

Kyle Shelhamer also had multiple goals for Crestwood.

Montana McGranahan was superb in the front row (24 kills) and the back (32 digs) as the undefeated G-Men scored a nonleague road victory.

Sophomore setter Reese Shirkey (42 assists) capably led the Garfield attack, dispersing the ball to Mandy Cardinal (15 kills), Hannah Kernig (10 kills) and Kyla Grace (six kills, 42 digs) as well as McGranahan.

Kenzington Miller led Mogadore with 27 digs while Kendall Barcus tallied 10 assists and Sophia Moledor had six kills.

Boys Golf

Brookfield 188, Garfield 210

The Warriors won with sophomore Braydon DeMaria (42), junior Hunter Warrender (47) and freshman Cody Davidson (47) all carding a 47 or below.

Senior Landen Gedeon led the G-Men with a 47.
