Portage County high school scores | Aug. 21: Olivia Boyle scores four for Waterloo soccer
Waterloo bounced back from a tough opening loss to Crestwood with an emphatic 6-0 victory over Brookfield to begin league girls soccer play Monday afternoon.
Olivia Boyle was at the center of the action for the Vikings (1-1-0, 1-0-0 Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference), scoring four goals.
Sydney Jackson and Kaylee Webb each added a goal and two assists.
Overall, Waterloo controlled the game, dominating in shots (25-1) and corner kicks (8-0).
Boys Golf
Waterloo 166, East Canton 223
Jackson Eichler shot a career-low 3-under 33 in the Vikings victory.
Clayton Smith (43) and Mitchell Shepherd (44) also had strong rounds for Waterloo, while Drew Flarida and Trevor Simons tied for the team's final scoring slot with each firing a 46.
Girls Golf
Rootstown 207, Streetsboro 211
The Rovers won a tight match Monday, helped by Alex Biggin and Ava Miller each carding a 46.
The Rockets' Samantha Clark turned in the top score of the day with a 44.
Volleyball
Rootstown def. Chalker, 25-7, 25-10, 25-20
Rootstown improved to 2-0 with a straight-set victory over Chalker Monday.
Zoe Pastva led the way for the Rovers from the service line with an impressive six aces (and 14 points overall).
Taylor Banks (7 assists, 11 service points) and Colbie Curall (9 kills, 3 blocks) also played leading roles for Rootstown.
Champion def. Windham, 25-19, 25-22, 25-11
The Bombers fell despite 12 digs and five kills from Briah Daniel.
Quinn Justham sparked the attack for Windham with 11 assists, while Ka'Neese Cunningham tallied eight points and four aces.
