The polls are open! Vote for the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week

Eight athletes from across the High Desert are in the running for the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week.

Daily Press readers can vote for their favorite high school athletes at the newspaper's website.

The poll closes on Wednesday night.

Here are the choices for the week, based on performances from May 6 to 11.

  • Addison Shockley, Academy of Careers & Exploration softball — Addison helped lead the offense for the Eagles by going 3 for 4 with a RBI, two runs and a stolen base in the second round of the CIF-SS Division 7 playoffs on May 7. In the quarterfinals, Addison went 2 for 3 with a RBI, a run and a stolen base as the Eagles lost 23-4 to Muir.

  • Brady Fonville, Apple Valley golf — Brady was one of three golfers from the High Desert to qualify for the CIF-Southern Section Individual Finals, on May 16, at Temecula Creek Golf Course, after shooting a 66 on May 6. Brady’s performance tied him atop the leaderboard after he birdied the final hole of the day at Bear Valley Country Club.

  • Cayden Johnson, Riverside Prep baseball — Cayden led the Silver Knights in a big way as they beat Segerstrom 5-3 in the CIF-SS Division second round on May 8. Cayden hit a pair of run-scoring triples in the first and third innings. Cayden picked up the win as he allowed two earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts over six innings.

  • Daniel Fernandez, Adelanto baseball — Daniel had a big day at the plate for the Saints in a 5-3 victory over Trinity Classical Academy in the second round of the CIF-SS Division 5 playoffs on May 8. Daniel scored the first run of the day after hitting a double, and then scoring on a wild pitch. Daniel gave the Saints a 3-0 lead after smacking a two-run home run in the fourth inning.

  • Khali Ratcliffe, Hesperia track and field — Khali is the lone High Desert athlete to qualify for the CIF-SS Masters after taking seventh place in the boys shot put. Khali had the fifth-best throw among Division 1 athletes at 53-feet-4.5-inches at Moorpark High School on May 11. His mark on the fourth attempt was good for seventh place across all four divisions.

  • Liliana Cazares, Riverside Prep softball — Liliana scored the game-winning run in the seventh inning as Riverside Prep beat Poly 8-7 in the second round of the CIF-SS Division 7 playoffs on May 7. Liliana ended the day 3 for 4 with a game-tying triple and three runs. In the quarterfinals two days later, Liliana went 4 for 4 with a RBI and run as Riverside Prep beat Yucca Valley 18-5.

  • Mia Vazquez, Granite Hills softball — Mia helped lead the Cougars to a 12-10 victory over Lancaster in the second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 6 playoffs on May 7. Mia went 4 for 5 with a three-run home in the fifth inning and also drove in another run. In the quarterfinals, a 15-1 loss to Ganesha, Mia went 2 for 3 and scored the lone run.

  • Macy Piorkowski, Hesperia Christian softball — Macy helped lead the Patriots into the CIF-SS Division 8 title with two big games last week. In the quarterfinals on May 7, Macy struck out seven batters and allowed one earned run on four hits in a 17-8 victory over Cornerstone Christian. In the semifinals on May 11, Macy struck out 14 batters over seven innings as the Patriots beat Temecula Prep 7-0. The senior allowed just two hits and allowed three walks.

Nominations must be received for consideration by Sunday morning following that week's games. Anyone can nominate an Athlete of the Week for every varsity sport.
