How politicians, athletes and others reacted to the Texas Rangers winning the World Series

The Texas Rangers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-0 on Wednesday to claim the first World Series crown in franchise history.

The win, which came at Chase Field in Phoenix, completed the Rangers’ perfect 11-0 record on the road in the postseason, a feat that had never before been accomplished, according to The Athletic.

They are also just “the third team in baseball history to win the World Series within two seasons of losing 100-plus games,” ESPN reported.

Social media reactions to Texas Rangers win

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott praised the Rangers on his personal X account.

“Another trophy for Texas,” he said.

Sen. Ted Cruz, a Republican who represents Texas in the U.S. Senate, noted on X that he was pleased to win a bet against his colleagues from Arizona.

“Congrats to the World Champion Rangers. An awesome Series, which they won decisively,” he said.

Cruz’s fellow U.S. senator from Texas, John Cornyn, also congratulated the Rangers on X.

“You’ve made the Lone Star State proud,” he said.

Former President George W. Bush said in a statement that the Rangers showed “baseball at its finest.”

“As a Texas Rangers fan, I am thrilled for Texas Rangers fans tonight. I congratulate the owners, the managers and coaching staff, the front office, and the entire organization. And of course, I congratulate the players of this awesome team on winning the first World Series in our club’s history. This was baseball at its finest, and Laura and I are proud of this team,” Bush said.

Dez Bryant, a former wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys, used five exclamation points in his celebratory post.

The Empire State Building joined in the Rangers’ celebration online and in real life.

Cynt Marshall, CEO of the Dallas Mavericks, shared a video of Mavs fans watching the final moments of Wednesday’s World Series game in the basketball arena.

Kent Hance, a former Texas state senator and chancellor emeritus of the Texas Tech University System, highlighted how a Texas Tech alum helped the Rangers succeed.
