Polamalu ponders future with Steelers

Pittsburgh safety Troy Polamalu indicated he may retire this offseason depending upon what the Steelers decide to do. Polamalu has a salary cap number of $10.88 million for next season, including a base salary of $8.25 million.

Pittsburgh is expected to be over the salary cap in the offseason, so it may talk to Polamalu and several other players such as quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and LaMarr Woodley about restructuring contracts.
Polamalu said he wasn’t sure what to expect.

“I don’t know,” Polamalu told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “The chips will land wherever they may after this game, and we’ll see. I want to play this game as long and as good as I can play it. Whenever that (retirement) time comes, it will come. I’m not sure when it will come, though.”
