One football player and one basketball athlete are being recognized for their outstanding achievements on the field and court.

This week, a Pleasant Valley High School basketball player and Orland High School football player are being highlighted. It's time to meet the two Shasta Family YMCA Athletes of the Week for their accomplishments over the last few weeks.

Ava Dunn

School: Pleasant Valley

Sport: Basketball

Class: Junior

Team contributions: In Pleasant Valley's 59-39 win over Del Oro, Loomis on Nov. 24, Ava Dunn recorded five rebounds (four defensive, one offensive) as well as one steal and one assist. Teammate AJ Gambol put up 29 points for the Vikings, while Maddux Wilson dropped 14. Next up, Pleasant Valley (1-1) is heading to a tournament on Thursday where the Vikings will first take on Vista del Lago. Match time is set for 5 p.m.

Class: Senior

Team contributions: Jaime Albarran was dominant on both sides of the ball during the Trojans game against Lassen on Saturday for the Northern Section Football Division III Playoffs. Orland defeated the Grizzlies 41-21 despite trailing by nine heading into the second half. Offensively, Albarran had one touchdown and recorded 80 yards off of 17 carries. Defensively, the 5-foot-10, 185-pound senior had one interception for six yards as well as a fumble recovery. Now, Albarran and the Trojans take on Woodland Christian for the 2023 CIF Regional Football Championship Bowl Game for Division 5-A at 6 p.m. Saturday.
