Playmakers and more: 32 Athens-area high school flag football players to watch in 2023
High school football season has just four weeks left in their 2023 campaigns, but don't worry if you haven't gotten your full fix of the sport − flag football started last week for seven schools in the Athens-area.
Athens Academy, Clarke Central, East Jackson, Jackson County, North Oconee, Oconee County and Winder-Barrow have filed rosters to be included in the GHSA's new and ever-growing sport.
The Panthers and Bulldogs will be competing in the Division 2 Area 7 bracket with Heritage (Conyers), Loganville, Newton, Rockdale County, Salem and Walnut Grove.
The rest of the Athens-area teams will compete in the Division 1 Area 6 bracket with Greene County, Hebron Christian, Monroe Area and Morgan County.

The season began on Oct. 2 and will stretch eight-and-a-half weeks to Nov. 30. The state tournament is scheduled to kick off on Dec. 5 with the first and second rounds, while the quarterfinals and semifinals are slated for Dec. 7 and the championships will be held Dec. 11-13.
Each school has a different number of games on its calendar. Here are players to keep an eye on during the 2023 season in the Peach State.
