Week seven athlete of the week concluded, and it is time to announce a winner. The weekly Athlete of the Week ballot features nominated athletes from around the County. Athlete nominations can be submitted every Sunday by 9:00 p.m. Athlete of the Week polls run between Monday and Wednesday each week. Athlete nominations that are submitted will be automatically included in the final poll.

Week 7 Winner: Brooke Smith - Pittsford Girls Track and Field

Pittsford junior Brooke Smith became the first athlete of the spring sports season to win two athlete of the week honors. The junior won in week two of the spring sports season and was nominated again in week seven. The Pittsford fans voted for Smith in the week seven ballot, earning her the week seven athlete of the week honor.

Smith earned a nomination after helping the Pittsford varsity girls track team earn a runner-up finish at the MITCA D4 Team State Finals. The Wildcats took second place behind state champion Hillsdale Academy. Smith won both the 1600 and 3200-meter races at the state finals to help her team earn that honor. Also during that week, Smith won the 3200-meter conference championship event.

Smith was one of several Wildcats to qualify for the state finals this year. Her relay team was nominated for the week eight athlete of the week award after earning a runner-up finish at the state finals in the 4x800.

Honorable Mentions

  • Megan Roberts - Hillsdale Academy Girls Track: Senior Megan Roberts helped her teammates and team win a MITCA state championship. The senior set a new MITCA state record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:18.90 and took first place in the event and in relay events.

  • Lyra Nichols - Jonesville Softball: Jonesville junior Lyra Nichols pitched a perfect game of no walks, hits or runs in game one of the Comets' doubleheader with Homer. Nichols had a total of 18 strikeouts in the game.

  • Tyler Bays - Reading Boys Track: Reading senior Tyler Bays brought home a conference title in the 800-meter sprint and won a MITCA D4 championship in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:34.07.

  • Hillsdale's Girls Relay Team of Amelia Dietz, Annemarie Moore, Mia Hinz and Kia Charboneau: The Hornet girls relay team of Amelia Dietz, Annemarie Moore, Mia Hinz and Kia Charboneau won conference championships in the 4x100 and 4x200-meter relays. They also set new LCAA record times in both events. They won conference titles in the 4x100 with a time of 50.97 and in the 4x200 with a time of 1:47.73.
