Pitt WR Jordan Addison announces he will transfer to USC

After inserting themselves as dark horse contenders for the No. 1 player available in the transfer portal, it appears that Texas’ efforts will not be enough to land Pitt transfer Jordan Addison.

The 2021 Biletnikoff award winner, which is given to the best pass catcher in the country, was wined and dined by Texas over the last week or so. Steve Sarkisian, Bijan Robinson, and Quinn Ewers among others all made push for him to come to Austin.

However, it wasn’t enough as Addison took to Twitter on Thursday to announce that he would be taking his talents out West to play for Lincoln Riley at USC.

When Addison’s name first surfaced in the transfer rumors, it was believed that there had been some behind the scenes work done by Riley and USC. However, it is believed that the Longhorns pitch to Addison was a very convincing one but just not enough outduel USC.

While adding the nation’s best receiver would have been an amazing addition to the already loaded offense, the Longhorns are likely still thrilled to have Wyoming transfer Isaiah Neyor and Alabama transfer Agiye Hall.

Texas will still certainly look into the transfer portal to add more depth at wide receiver, but it is worth noting that state champion sprinter and four-star pass catcher Brenen Thompson will be in the mix for playing time as well as he is set to arrive on campus prior to fall camp.

While this recruiting loss may sting for Texas fans, it is worth noting that wide receiver is definitely one of their stronger positions on the roster and there are more glaring needs to fill. Addison would have been a nice treat to top off the offense, but it wasn’t necessarily a must to get him.
