Giants update: The Giants entered Thursday with a chance to sweep a four-game series with the Colorado Rockies, which would have pulled them to within four games of the .500 mark, the closest they’ve been to .500 since early September. RHP Logan Webb (2.93 ERA) and LHP Carlos Rodon (2.84 ERA) are having strong seasons atop the Giants’ rotation. Rodon has been particularly dominant of late, with a 1.10 ERA and 29 strikeouts in his past 16 1/3 innings. RHP Camilo Doval has a 2.45 ERA and has converted 23 of 26 save opportunities. 3B David Villar has swung the bat well this month, going 16 for 59 (.271) with a .921 OPS, a performance that could give him a leg up for a more significant role next season. RHP Alex Cobb is having a solid September, posting a 1.90 ERA in four starts.
