Pitcher Freddy Peralta scheduled to start for Brewers on Wednesday

Milwaukee Brewers' Freddy Peralta throws during the first inning of a baseball game against the Cincinnati Reds in Cincinnati, Tuesday, May 10, 2022.

PITTSBURGH - On a trade deadline afternoon that had an unusual feel to it inside the Brewers clubhouse, Freddy Peralta had by far the biggest smile in the room.

And why wouldn’t he? The righthander is set to start Wednesday night’s contest, his first major-league game since injuring his right shoulder during a start May 22.

“It feels great,” Peralta said. “I couldn’t wait anymore. I was so anxious to be back. Now I’m gonna be able to help the team a little bit, too. It’s great to be here again.”

Peralta’s timeline to return was quicker than many anticipated. He made just two rehab appearances totaling 5 ⅓ innings. Peralta threw 52 pitches in his final outing on July 29 at Class AAA Nashville.

“I knew when everything happened and I got hurt it was gonna take two to three months,” Peralta said. “But everything was quicker. I did my best and the trainers did their best to get me back. I feel good and it’s great to be here.”
