Pinckney softball star qualifies for state track meet, but has conflict

CHELSEA — Pinckney junior CeCe Thorington qualified for the state Division 2 track and field meet in two events, but she has a conflict that day.

Thorington’s main sport is softball, having verbally committed to play for the University of Michigan. Pinckney will host Chelsea in a district semifinal softball game at noon June 3 while the state track and field meet is taking place at Forest Hills Eastern in the Grand Rapids area.

Thorington was second in the 400-meter run in 59.68 seconds, fourth in the 200 in 26.59 and ran on the second-place 800 relay team with Tatiana Williams, Brielle Reason and Madison Cooke. That team finished in 1:46.95. Thorington qualified in the 200 based on her time.

Finishing second for Pinckney to earn trips to the state meet were Reason in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 7.5 inches and Nadia Jacobs with a pole vault of 8-9.

Pinckney finished fourth with 57 points. Tecumseh won with 102.

In the boys meet, junior Paul Moore qualified in three events for Pinckney.

Moore was third in the 1,600 in 4:21.03, third in the 3,200 in 9:32.77 and ran on the second-place 3,200 relay team with Zach Newman, Ethan Sandula and Zach DeBeauclair. The Pirates ran 8:05.16.

Senior Andrew Otberg won high jump, clearing 6-2.

Qualifying for the state meet with second-place finishes were Colten Lumadue in the 400 (51.56) and Evan Loughridge in the 1,600 (4:20.12). Loughridge was returning from an injury.

Conor Trotter qualified on performance by clearing 12-8 in pole vault to place third. Sandula qualified on time in the 3,200, placing seventh in 9:51.19.

The Pirates placed fourth with 75.5 points. Adrian won with 103.5.

Division 2 regional at Frankenmuth

Fowlerville junior Owen Presley qualified for the state meet in three events. He placed third in the 100 in 11.32, and ran on the second-place 400 relay team and fourth-place 800 relay team.

Justice Wojcik, Lorenzo Wojcik and Evan Atkinson were also on the 400 relay team that finished in 43.86. Atkinson, Lorenzo Wojcik and Carl Neuman were also on the 800 relay team, which beat the qualifying standard in 1:32.53.

Freshman Landon Aeschliman took second in pole vault at 11-8.

Fowlerville placed third as a team with 59 points. Fowlerville’s girls were ninth and didn’t have a state qualifier.
