The Pigskin Prophet predicts Houma- and Thibodaux-area first-round high school football
The regular season ended last weekend and nine Houma- and Thibodaux-area high school football teams will compete for a championship. With three of those teams receiving a first-round bye, six Houma- and Thibodaux-area schools are playing this Friday to open the LHSAA playoffs. Here's the Pigskin Prophet's predictions for the first round:
Covenant Christian @ Delta Charter
Simply put, CCA is one of the weaker playoff teams in any bracket this season. The 3-7 Lions have one win since September, and that came against a winless Highland Baptist squad. Comparatively, the 8-1 Storm hasn't lost since September. This one won't be close.
Prediction: Delta Charter 52, Covenant Christian 7

Houma Christian @ Holy Savior Menard
The Warriors got hot at the right time, winning four straight after a .500 start to take a 7-3 record into the playoffs. The problem is the Eagles have done the same thing, and have arguably done better. Over that HSM's five-game win streak, a dominant defense has held opponents to 4.8 points per game. The Warriors will put up a fight, but the Eagles will come out on top.
Prediction: Holy Savior Menard 21, Houma Christian 6
South Lafourche @ Dutchtown
South Lafourche has the benefit of an unofficial bye — last week's game against Vandebilt Catholic was canceled due to the stadium losing its lights. But Dutchtown enters at 8-1, with their one loss by one point in early October. The Tarpons' season ends Friday.
Prediction: Dutchtown 34, South Lafourche 21

Thibodaux @ Southside
The Tigers have been a feel-good story this season, rebounding from a 1-4 start to claim a playoff berth. However, the Sharks are too talented. It'll be closer than some expect, but this will still be a comfortable Southside victory.
Prediction: Southside 28, Thibodaux 14
Frederick A. Douglass @ Vandebilt Catholic
The Bobcats have not won a road game since the season opener in August. This Terriers team is not quite a championship contender, but VCHS will advance to the second round with ease.
Prediction: Vandebilt Catholic 34, Frederick A. Douglass 14
Game of the Week: Terrebonne @ Westgate
Throughout the season, Terrebonne has been one of the best teams — and is certainly better than its 17th seed. Westgate is a weak host, and THS will make quick work in this all-Tigers matchup.
Prediction: Terrebonne 42, Westgate 21
